For the longest time, literally since the 1970s, Chinese nuclear fuel powered submarines have been regarded as a joke by a lot of western militaries. Today, China seems to have started building another subvariant of its 093 nuke attack subs. And this time around, it seems its capabilities are getting fairly close to US ones. This video will try to shed a bit more light on it all.
US Air Force is losing its tech edge (over China)

I think the thing is can China kill enough Americans and destroy enough equipment to make the US cease with a conflict in the area? No one expects Chinese paratroopers jumping into California. Post gulf war 1 the US expects minor casualties and losses in a war. Could the US populus stomatch losing a carrier with 5000 hands? China has the advantage that it can to a degree hide the impact of loses from its people and while the one child policy has doomed future population numbers they still have bodies to throw at problems. Hopefully it will never happen anyway

Binkov noted in his earlier video about the threat of Russian subs to American aircraft carriers that the Russian subs didn't have to be better than or even equal to US subs. They just had to be good enough to avoid detection. Now it appears that the Chinese have reached that point, and they'll be building a lot more subs than the Russians.

@atheos19 You really think the world is going to war with China because the US says so? Heck, I will be surprise if half of Europe will go to war with China on the behest of the US. China is the biggest trading partner with more than 120 countries in the world, and most of the rest have China either its 2nd or 3rd biggest trading partner. To go to war with China is to literally destroy yourself. So in the event of a conflict in west Pacific, the US might be the one who find itself alone.

@@wilgoos63 Those hulls are welded wrought high strength steel. Its their casting, dirty cheep steel. Needle type inclusions close to the surface weaken the part lowering its strength and fatigue resistence. We buy this steel to reduce production costs. Next thing you know the part is breaking. Whether or not this has extended to the sub parts is unknown. One has just been lost by the titanic wreck. When they are compromised and start sinking they implode. There are very few naval battles that can be used as a reference. There have been no submarine battles and aircraft carrier battles with similar technical levels for decades, so most of them can only be speculated based on tonnage parameters and historical experience. China's shipbuilding industry accounts for one-third of the world, and its technical capabilities and quality are unquestionable. It's just that building submarines is a completely different concept from building ordinary warships. I look forward to more information

China is clearly working up to the point it has nuclear parity with the US. It's not so much about warhead counts, more like SLBM survivability and having warheads that could plausibly get through US missile defences. This is because they're going to invade Taiwan know the US basically has to fight them because it can't lose access to TSMC or Asian manufacturing. China also has a covert but fairly obvious deal with Russia. I expect that Ukraine will gradually escalate into an open Russia/NATO war and then China will invade Taiwan. Both hope that dividing US forces between Europe and the Pacific and the dubious stability of the US regime and economy will let them win. This is, of course, an absolutely insane plan and will lead to nuclear war. And of course the US is not blameless in this. It forced a coup in Ukraine and pushed Russia into the China camp rather than trying to have Russia anti Chinese but not fully aligned to the West, analogous to the way post Sino-Soviet split China was anti USSR but not fully aligned with the West. In a three power world system it is very, very important to make sure you're in the block of two, not the isolated single power. Instead the US plushed Russia into an alliance with China and has bullied even Western European states like Germany by blowing up Nordstream. This was incredibly stupid. Not as dumb as Russia and China copying the WW2 Axis idea of deciding to take on the West knowing that 1) The West has nukes and 2) It will probably use them rather than lose Taiwan. And even ignoring Taiwan it's hard to see any outcome over Ukraine that doesn't end with a direct NATO/Russia confrontation. As bad an idea as it obviously is I think the US, Russia and China all see a war coming.

How would these compare to non-US subs such as France/Germany/S.Korea/Japan etc.?
@sly_lock
@sly_lock Жыл бұрын
The UK and French subs are comparable to the US subs. I'm sure there are strengths and weaknesses and many similarities shared via NATO. Even if China has an equal level of tech in their new boats(doubtful), they completely lack the institutional knowledge required to truly be comparable. The real question is whether they commit to the training, quality assurance, maintenance, and MONEY required to operate and constantly upgrade a fleet. If they do, then one day they can be. There's also a lot that you don't learn when all you do is steal technology and fail to develop it yourself. There's a possibility that Russia could help them achieve their goals, but even they are a shell of what the Soviets once were. Those other countries only use diesel subs, as do many others. Most of the quality versions are bought from Sweden. They have their merits, and can be deadly when close to home.

The US generally does not talk about the technological capabilities of its submarine fleet publically. I wonder if comments made by US Navy personell about the closing technological gap with Rissian and Chinese equipment are actually true. To be sure China and Russia are doing all they can to close any technological gap in their hardware but at the same time the US is starting to build a new class of submarine and you can bet your bottom dollar they will incorporate every technological innovation they have from the latest flight of Virginia Class subs, plus some more advanced elements new to that class. Were the comments made by US naval personnel the truth or is this just intended to be negative enough to maintain or accelerate US Navy funding in budget allocations?

I can tell you that the new Russian Yasen subs are about as quiet as an Improved LA class US sub. Pretty quiet but not close to as quiet as a Virgian or Astute. But…the problem for the Russians isn’t that the new Yasen class subs aren’t quite enough; it’s that they can only build a couple. The vast majority of their sub fleet are old Cold War models. The capability of your sub fleet is not equivalent to your best 1 or 2 subs, but the majority of the fleet, as well as the training of the crew.

I look at things as realistically as I can. I see that China has long term goals militarily and economically, and they have been steadily achieving them. They are modernizing all branches of their military, land, air, sea...and space. They have openly declared that they want Taiwan back under their control, and are deep into preparation for that main event. They've been practicing combined arms all around Taiwan. They build multiple new helicopter bases on the mainland directly across from the island. I see the US putting more forces in Japan and the Philippines to counter, but I don't see the US & it's allies as having the ability to stop the eventual taking of Taiwan. I don't feel the US has the ability or will to stop China. While China continues to grow, I see the US struggling to hold what it has abroad. Afghanistan fell way faster than the analysts thought it would. The US used to have unrivaled military superiority, but both the numerical and technical advantages have shrunk rapidly. China has more ships, and they are quite capable. Their version of AWACS plane is now superior to what the US fields. China is building advanced tactical aircraft at a rate that outpaces the US and if they continue to do so will gain and even exceed US numbers. The US also seems to be doing a lot more reacting verses causing China to react. Don't forget, in the last world war, the US was the worlds factory and turned out the goods to help not only itself, but many allied countries as well. Today China is the worlds factory. I know China has plenty of flaws, but believing they are still a paper tiger when they have become a great dragon is naive.

China will never take Taiwan. First of all, the Chinese economy is crashing because their population is aging unnaturally due to their one child policy and companies are moving out of China. China will soon go into a permanent economic decline. Furthermore, China cheaply copies American tech. Chinese engineering and workmanship especially on complicated machines especially without Western help- very poor workmanship. Thirdly, all of China’s neighbors will war China with everything they have because they are defending their homes. Fourthly, the bases in the Philippines make it impossible for China to take Taiwan. American f22 & ngad fighters will dominate the skies. American air power alone is more than enough to sink all Chinese troop transports. Plus we have all the best submarines in the world.

The Russians' latest submarine wasn’t readily tracked during its first outing but it was tracked on its second outing and now, it can already be identified by its sound (as made clear by Britain, France and Italy earlier this year). The Chinese may start out louder, the maintenance is unlikely to be so bad as to match this rate of degradation of stealthy capabilities. Western countries build databases of passive sound and look for a submarine's 'signature'. I'm sure China (and Russia for that matter) will certainly be trying to do the same nowadays.

@@SeamusCameron The US hasn't fought an actual high intensity war sense the Gulf War in 91, 30 years ago. And even then Iraq wasn't anywhere near even being near peer like China is. Instead the US spent those 30 years bullying third world countries and acting as If no one else would ever challenge it again. The disastrous effect this has had on the state of the US military is apparent through the programs it has ran. The zummwalt was a stealth bombardment ship meant to cruise up to defenseless countries and pound them with overly expensive guns. The LCS was meant to deal with speedboats and Mines deployed by third world countries to try and stop the US navy from pummeling them. The Joint Strike Fighter program built a jet that could launch from three different platforms to bomb third world countries but was worse at gaining air superiority than the f22 (which is currently getting shelved). The only reason China is even described as near peer militarily is because the US military spent 20 years letting its high intensity war capabilities wither out so it could focus on third world slogs
