China’s new travel permit for foreign Hong Kong, Macau residents

Beijing has announced that permanent residents of Hong Kong and Macau who are not of Chinese nationality can apply for five-year travel permits allowing them entry into mainland China starting from July 10, 2024. Welcoming the new policy on July 2, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said an online booking quota was already almost full. The permits are among a series of travel benefits Beijing has granted Hongkongers since early 2023.

Report forgot to mention the APEC card for foreign permanent residents. Got it for past 20 years, and I pass borders through special lane, quite fast except for the finger prints. But this permit will be even better for sure.

@@___beyondhorizon4664 I came back in 2014 too. But I only lived in HK 2.5 years, then moved to Shenzhen. But the game was the almost the same, depending on which China visa I had, I'd have to bounce over to HK every 30, 90, or 180 days.

Nope, people from HK, Macau and even Taiwanese don't need visa to enter the Mainland. China recognizes these 3 territories as part of their country. What China really don't recognize are people who are permanent residents of HK and/or Macau who are not ethnically chinese. In other words, there are a lot of white people (let say from England for example) who were born and raised their entire life in HK, they are of course permanent residents, they even have HK passport, but China don't recognize them because they have no connection to China.

Please watch the video carefully, If you have the card, you pass the customs in second. otherwise, you need wait in a long queue and leave finger print every time. It save a lot of time. And the card can use inside mainland China to buy train ticket or buy a phone number. If you have a phone number you can have Ali pay or weChat pay.

Some European, Thai, Singaporean, Malaysian and Georgian live in HK they have visa free to China. They can apply the MTP card to go to China no need to waste the time to sign up the form can used the card and no need to line up the foreigners line can use the machine.

By work they mean seeking employment with a Chinese company across the border and being directly paid by them. Business would be if you are already working in HK for a company registered in HK and they send you to meet with suppliers in China or some conference taking place in mainland. It's actually a pretty standard thing for any country. For instance, I could have a tourist visa for the US. That wouldn't (and shouldn't) allow me to seek employment with an American company or apply admission to school while there as a visitor.

Big difference between Mainland China and Hong Kong. One time I was transferring through Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific when we were told there is no flight to take us on to JFK NY. They will put us up in a hotel. Hong Kong immigration gave me a 90-day visa stamp. That is just for staying one night in Hong Kong. China wants so many things like fingerprints and more.

No working? There are companies that are involved between the borders, isn't that limiting business? What about making something similar for foreign visitors? HK and Macau are the only two places that tolerates travelers entering for 90 days without a VISA but requires one when entering the mainland.

By working they mean directly being hired and being on the payroll of a Chinese company or entity across the border. They clearly specify that business (ex., business meetings, conferences, etc.) is ok. This seems perfectly reasonable to me, no country would allow such thing under a visitor's permit or visa.

That being said, getting Chinese nationality via Hong Kong and Mainland China are different. Foreigners who stay in Hong Kong for 7 years can apply to become Chinese nationals by application and renouncing your other nationalities at the end of the process, (but you can get them back afterwards as the PRC officially turns a blind eye to HK PRs with more than one passport. Holding more than one nationality is sort of against the PRC's constitution so different story for Mainlanders). Citizens of Pakistan can especially easily resume their Pakistani citizenship status after attaining Chinese nationality for example, so quite a few go with this route. It's near impossible to get Chinese nationality via Mainland on the other hand. The irony is the HK passport is easier to attain and more powerful.

Green card of HK ≠ Green card of China. HK citizen idendity = Chinese nationality almost , therefore HK citizen can easily live inside mainland China, with equal job opportunity and political rights, HK people can choose to get Chinese national social security( pension , medicare and house funding ) if they work in mainland China. if you have got HK citizenship, legally, you enjoy the same right as HK citizen and equal right in China.

This could also help Hong Kong students who take a year out to work in the British Isles. EV cars and vehicles are also a topic increasing for bilingual employment here and there especially with lower speed vehicles in marketing. Automotive and drones use cases for embedded systems including embedded C programming languages are useful. My comment has no hate in it and I do no harm. @@mouseisbroken Because Chinese is still not all that useful outside of China or communities of ethnically Chinese people, and the colony-like isolationist attitude of overseas Mainlander communities makes it unlikely that Mandarin will grow in popularity and utility. Around the world I've found that even Korean is a better lingua franca, despite not being a UN official language.

@@doujinflip well, with the majority of high ranking research articles are now written by Chinese or at least with a Chinese co-writer, being able to communicate with them in their native language is obviously a huge plus if you are in science and engineering. I don't think being able to speak korean can offer you any level of convenience remotely comparable to that. Of course, if you do need to search 20 hours a week on kimchi receipts online, that would be a completely different story.

Meanwhile tens of 1000s travel per day from Hong Kong to Shenzhen for visiting families, tourism, shopping, and dining. On top of that almost a million Hong Kongers migrating to the greater Shenzhen areas since cost of living is 1/3 of Hong Kong. Even a little Google search can clear up the brainwashing propaganda. Better yet travel and see the world you'd be amazed the world is not a little trapped cocoon being fed with propaganda and mainstream media. People are people all around the world. Majority of ppl outside of the West are not consumed with politics and propaganda on a daily basis. At the end of the day you look out for you and what's best for you. Governments everywhere are just there to collect taxes.
