No matter how many times you say Apollo went to the moon, it doesn't change that it didn't happen, and as for Artimush, it wouldn't have got round the moon without the early 1970s soviet rs25 rocket motors that the US bought a bulk lot of for the space shuttle program. The Saturn V Never had the lifting capacity with its pathetic 50atmospheres rocket chamber pressure. And Elons scrapped any plans for crew. So don't be surprised if China is the first country to get a human above low earth orbit. They will need superconducting magnetic shielding to handle the radiation.

Lol @ "without media bias". What a charitable slogan when you really just mean overt bias sanitized. And in return, you hope that my fellow Chinese back home, who aren't so versed in "free world", will be naive just enough to fall for it. How I can't wait to go back to China. I'll be spilling the beans on how best to exploit "free world" "reporting".

@zilongli9070
@zilongli9070 10 ай бұрын
@@kojotasunashe8547 I think as a Chinese, I can talk about my understanding of why China follows the space program it promised and realizes it within the deadline. First of all, when proposing a plan, there will be a strict project feasibility discussion plan, and there will be a discussion and certification that lasts for several years. During this discussion phase, its content will be continuously updated. When the final project plan is finalized, it will be written into the next five-year plan. After being written into the five-year plan, in the next five years, the space program will be carried out successively, and the realization cycle will be even longer. Take why China built its own space station as an example. At first, China wanted to cooperate with NASA, but the United States issued a bill prohibiting China from joining the US space cooperation program. Therefore, China had to start from scratch with difficult independent research and development, and the birth process of the Chinese version of the GPS positioning system was actually the same. He was rejected and had to develop independently. From the beginning of the project to the official network and the start of the global Beidou satellite communication service, it has gone through a long research and development cycle. The second reason is that once a certain space program is included in the five-year plan, it will not change with the change of new government. It can be seen that the reused award-winning project of American sapceX company has achieved success and has a great advantage of cost saving. Chinese officials have not yet revealed the relevant research plans.

That tether system for catching the rocket, amazing!
@clay-tw5gc
@clay-tw5gc 10 ай бұрын
I was stunned when I saw that. However, it is probably just as reliable as a catch system as the SpaceX chopsticks. I am confused about how the cables will be able to survive the violence of the deceleration thrust plume.
@richardbloemenkamp8532
@richardbloemenkamp8532 4 ай бұрын
This is pretty close to what I dreamt up as an alternative when I first saw the SpaceX chopsticks idea. As an engineer this system seems less sensitive to exact positioning than the chopsticks. In addition cables are lighter than chopsticks which allows them to be moved more quickly and/or with less power and the springiness of the cables appears beneficial too. Of course cables can break but it is possible to have multiple as a backup and cables can be made very strong too. I would expect that the chopsticks are preferable if the booster can be landed very precisely but the cables give more catching flexibility if the landing is a bit off. In any case the cable solution looks like a very good idea; maybe some amateurs/universities could do some evaluation with scale models. I don' t think it would be a big deal copying some good idea from the Chinese.
@richardbloemenkamp8532
@richardbloemenkamp8532 4 ай бұрын
@@clay-tw5gc As far as I see the cables will still be quite far sideways when the exhaust plume passes through the square formed by the cables. The cables move in only when the engines are already below the level of the cables. Furthermore the cables could be under an overhead protection initially. I would be mostly worried that the cables damage the booster skin during the catch.

@@exploreandunravel5773 It is absolutely great to see what India reached this last week with the Chandrayaan-3 mission. It was only India's second attempt to land on the Moon and they achieved their goal to land on the South pole (Which is not the backside of the Moon as you claim. But India is nevertheless the first nation ever to land on the South pole, which is also a impressive achievement.). So yes India did a hell of a job, and I do think that the whole world does applaud for them, but China is the only nation that ever landed a rover on the backside of the Moon. Not even Russia and/or the US could do this yet. But maybe that it is time to set all nationalistic feelings a side ? We can be happy for every nation who does reach it's goals and helps humanity to improve their knowledge. ✌ (Greatings from the Netherlands, who will never land on the Moon. 😉)

I hope that something will change the current political situation from suspicion and isolation to close cooperation and mutual respect. We all want to explore and colonize the moon and it will be far easier for everyone if we can finally move beyond the petty politics and the Cold War mentality of the past. Until that time comes, I wish China great success in their quest.

I wish them luck! More footprints on the moon are a good thing. I do wish they used the LM-5 with more launches - e.g. launching the modules without fuel, docking them on orbit and fueling them. A brand new rocket, even one with proven engines, is a recipe for delays. Even more so considering it will be thrown away in favor of a new one already in development. In any case, I suppose all options were considered by much smarter people so they had good reasons for it.

Finally, spacecraft are very expensive and difficult to build, requiring custom fabrication. This is why it takes years to do and also why the US can’t just do it “easy,” it will take years of will and planning to pull off even though they went in the past.

This plan is a lot simpler and easier to implement than the current Artemis plan. NASA should have employed a similar startegy with one SLS launching a fully fueled lander to the Moon and a second SLS rocket launching a crewed Orion spacecraft to meet up in Lunar orbit. Would have required a higher SLS production cadence be implemented faster, but that's just a production/logistics problem, nothing compared to the extremely complex architectures and tech development required by both Artemis landers.

No. NASA isn’t looking to repeat what’s already been done. It’s trying to innovate and build the advanced technologies that will enable human exploration of the solar system and colonies off world, technology China will eventually steal once the US has perfected it (as always). Starship & New Glenn will revolutionise the way we look at building things in space and solving the boil-off problem with Hydrogen & LOX + Rapid reusability will truly start a new era. We say: "五十六个民族,五十六朵花。" means "56 ethnic groups are 56 fabulous flowers 💐." If China plans for a lunar base, it should start doing more space construction and building up a sustained transportation system. China should send the spare space station to the moon orbit. A crewed spacecraft ir transporter should then dock with the orbital moon station. A lander should then be sent to dock with the moon station and a initial uncrewed landing should be done before doing a ctewed landing. The crewed transport and the lander should be reused many times. The moon station ahould also function as a refueling station for the lander. The Chinese space station should be used as the Earth gateway for moving crew to and fro from earth.
