China enters second wave
Poor data, cases, infections, hospitalisations, deaths, genomes
covid19.who.int/region/wpro/c...
Population 1,412,600,000
Will be infected in next 6 weeks
Daily new infection rate over an 8 week period
Per week = 176,575,000
Per day = 25,225,011
World meter
www.worldometers.info/coronav...
Actual deaths
covid19.healthdata.org/china?...
Over the next 3 months
Therefore about 100,000 deaths per month
About 3,300 per day
Population 1,412,600,000
Infection fatality rate = 0.000207
Main variants
www.globaltimes.cn/page/20221...
asiatimes.com/2022/12/new-ste...
Omicron, BF.7, (BA.5.2.1.7)
Sub-lineage of omicron variant BA.5
Italy
www.telegraph.co.uk/world-new...
Flight into Milan’s Malpensa airport
Mandatory Covid tests for flights from China
December 26
First flight, 38% tested positive
Second flight, 52% tested positive
Positives to be used for genomic testing
Spallanzani Institute, Italy, Infectious diseases hospital
It would be better if the coordination of surveillance should take place at a European level
Screening passengers from China
Italy, US, India, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan
UK not testing arrivals from China
26 direct flights due in January
Half a million visitors per year
Immune-evasive / more transmissible variant
Lots of people infected today
Some with immune compromise
Ongoing contact with potential animal reservoirs
Potential for reverse zoonosis
Professor Aris Katzourakis, Evolution and Genomics, University of Oxford
I am not going to predict a direction, but there will be a whole lot of opportunity for rapid change
Xu Wenbo, China, Center for Disease Control and Prevention
More than 130 omicron sublineages,
detected in China over the last three months
The fact that 1.4 billion people are suddenly exposed to SARS-CoV-2 obviously creates conditions prone to emerging variants
Antoine Flahault, Institute of Global Health, University of Geneva
Any variants, when more transmissible than the previous dominant ones, definitely represent threats, since they can cause new waves
When is a covid death a covid death?
www.theguardian.com/world/202...
www.nhc.gov.cn/xcs/s3574/20221...
Prof Wang Guiqiang, National Health Commission
Revised its guidelines,
to scientifically and objectively reflect deaths caused by the coronavirus pandemic
Only fatalities caused by pneumonia and respiratory failure
Not deaths caused by cardiovascular, cerebrovascular diseases, blood clots, sepsis
the main cause of death from infection with Omicron is the underlying diseases

Accountability requires someone doing the counting. I came to hate this word, because it's so American. There, everybody claims how great things are, how the law rules and nobody is about or beyond it, while the whole system is designed to effectively be lawless and that includes the people who believe they "deserve" better while they wholeheartedly support this rampant corruption on both sides (though it looks different on the ends of the binary simplification some call a spectrum).

I am aan HCA in a care home and have worked throughout the pandemic. The initial wave and the rules we had to adhere to created an experience I will never forget. I wasn't able to prepare a resident the way I would've done in the past once they'd taken their last breath but what I did do rightly or wrongly was remove me PPE, hug them and talk to them until their last breath. It broke me not only emotionally but physically now. We were furious that family members couldn't be there and protested the situation regularly.

I said goodbye to my mom "bedside" via mobile phone. We were living in different states. This was during a more deadly variant, A strain or Delta if I recall correctly. She never contracted Covid despite increasingly frequent trips to ER and 2 stints of rehab in facilities at beginning of pandemic and so on. She'd been struggling with vascular dementia caused by a fall years earlier. The days preceeding the final scene,as she was going thru the process of dying, were sad to view by phone bcuz she thought I was physically there. Maybe in her failing mind I was and it gave her comfort.. I did not challenge this or try correcting her. The question of whether or not I should have travelled becomes a moral dilemma I still grapple with,at times, and without going into that aspect I will say that no matter how it played out, I was able to be in her presence and talk to her, thank her and tell her she did good as a mom and person and see her take her final breath. She died at home. My mother saw me into the world, I wanted to be able to see her out.

Wet markets and level 4 and 5 labs. I'm more concerned about Wet markets and Factory Farming as we will see more and more pandemics. Some will be much more deadly than Covid. Think MERS, that had a huge amount of deaths. with a case fatality rate of 35% thats every 35 in 100 people infected died from the MERS virus. the 2003 SARS was nasty too at 4 people in every 100 infected. The key was they locked down both outbreaks fast at the very beginning before it escaped globally.

@brobinson8614

@@tuberroot1112 Yes the wild animal trade is a substantial risk. The problem with wet markets is multiple animal species that never meet in the wild are all in cages stacked on top of each other, their poop drops from cage to cage spreading disease. a bat with a virus poops onto a cage were another species like a ferret or pangolin and you have high risk of mutation due to different immune systems never encountering that virus before. Many of those cages are never cleaned either. And several undercover journalists videod the wet markets over the last decade, yet nothing was down to shut them down or improve the standards These markets were meant to have been stopped in China, after previous scares, but local authorities just turned a blind eye to the issue. It was convenient then for China to let people blame the lab leak theory because the US have a lot of experiments happening in their labs too, so the blame gets shifted. and It took the heat off the Wet Markets. The problem of wet markets, factory farms and lab leaks has been discussed at least annually in The 'New Scientist' and 'Scientific American' for the last 30 years I've been reading them. We knew this was coming, and worse is yet to come.

Yes, Dr. Campbell, the way many dying people were treated was beyond belief - it was like a Stalinist hell hole. My Mother's only sibling died confused and alone - we can't bear to think about it - this is nothing that a civilised, humane society should EVER countenance. Even here in Australia, the way arbitrary rules were enforced, again was what you'd expect from some 3rd World dystopian, regime - I couldn't believe my eyes - would the Police treat actual criminals with such gusto: - Canada, what happened there was disgusting & heart-breaking - borderline criminal... The problem hasn't gone away, I'm worried it softened us up. I think folk need to be on their guard against any reintroduction of measures even remotely akin to what we endured under the guise of "For Our Protection"... I do pray we will soon be out of this current maelstrom of domineering hegemony from our so-called Dear Leaders! Peace & good health to all!

WHO is not independently counting the number. It’s still the official number collected from each country. You see the big “discrepancy”, it’s because you never see HongKong and Taiwan as part of China. If you ever saw China as whole, you would know the majority potion of the WHO figure is due to the big numbers from HongKong region and Taiwan region. It’s still very small number for mainland, and still doesn’t reflect the situation in mainland China.

Dr Campbell, you are a true book of knowledge and so nice to finally see a health professional with facts and data that just add up. I almost thought you sounded like my professors back in nursing school. When I read your bio, Lol, you where a teacher for nurses. I thought, wonderful. It's so hard to grasp what's going on in this world. It's even harder to be a nurse or MD now, too with all the stress or PTSD from so many pt.deaths. You really put things into perspective. In the US, I see it crazy that we are dealing with the flu, RSV, Strep A and now a new variant of Covid Xbb 1.5 in the Northeast US and many americans don't want to wear masks anymore. I went to a grocery store the other day, and counted the number of people with masks using my fingers(& toes) haha. I literally stopped when I counted a dozen. The store was Costco. Of course, people coughing and sneezing plus the glass shields at the registers were already removed. Bottom line, people just needs to look out for themselves no matter where they come from. Wash your hands, wear a good N95 masks & sanitize things if in doubt. I hope you and the viewers all stay safe. I look forward to keep listening to what you vlog.

Thank you & Happy New Year!! 🤍 I feel like everything has changed since 2020, the way we live, work, dress, interact with others, find enjoyment, and definitely the amount of time we spend at home. My feelings are until we start talking about our new reality, we leave ourselves open to misunderstanding & depression. 😏 Nothing in life ever goes backwards... We might not be in imminent danger from China right now, but being aware & prepared for something new to develop from this outbreak just helps us not to alarmingly shocked when & if it does. I think people flying to other countries while infected is wrong! 🤍🤍 When will it become status quo to stay home when you're sick?? Including children. 🙄

Man, this was nicely done. So many news reports tend to be quite dramatic, but you seem to be providing a reassuring report. Of course, because China has a huge population, one can expect relatively high numbers of infections and deaths. But it seems less of a threat than being portrayed. Especially if your immune system is in good shape from extended fasting. Some of the many benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Blood pressure is quickly and dramatically lowered. Fribrosis/scarring is reversed over time and telomeres are lengthened, which also helps with lung fibrosis. The hunger hormone ghrelin lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy! Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release! Reflexes and short term memory are increased. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire immune system. Weight loss from fasting only loses10% lean tissue and 90% fat compared to the typical 25% lean tissue and 75% fat lost when calorically restricting for long periods. Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus. Losing weight through intermittent fasting shows greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period. What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast, though if the amount is tiny you will go back into ketosis very quickly. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many medications are dangerous to take while fasting so you may have to talk to your dr. about discontinuing them during a fast. Fasts of several days will not affect short term female fertility and may increase long term fertility, especially in women with PCOS. Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone and helps build muscle by increasing insulin sensitivity! The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, your body always runs mainly on fat except for brief periods of very intense exercise. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose. Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses. Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention! When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells. This kills these cells off completely. Senescent cells are responsible for the effects of aging and are the root cause of the development of cancer. If it were possible to destroy them all it would completely stop aging and cancer. That is not possible but fasting can help limit these effects by killing off many of the affected cells and limiting the future effects of aging. Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, helping a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and under 18 g of carb. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice.
