China Turns Polluted River into Tourist Heaven

Beijing has turned a once-polluted waterway into one of the most beautiful rivers in the world!
I'm talking about Liangma River, in Beijing's bustling Chaoyang District. And one of the most popular things to do in Beijing right now is take a nighttime cruise along the river! I've never been on the river before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I had walked past certain stretches of it, or drove past in a car, and always thought that looks nice. But at night, the river really comes alive!
I can't quite believe that this once-polluted, overgrown river is now one of the cities top tourist attractions.

The Good Luck Bridge is so stunning! Love how soothing this video is, Stu! I'm glad you showed us just how incredible this river transformation is! This reminds me of what the US state of Ohio has done to Cuyahoga River (which goes from Akron to Cleveland at Lake Erie). The Cuyahoga was once SUPER polluted, like to the point that it caught on fire at least THIRTEEN times! With its most famous fire being one in June 1969, which is what spurred the American environmental movement, because it made many realize the conditions urban rivers in the country were back then. Thanks to dam removals, congressional action (the 1972 Clean Water Act which ended unfettered industrial pollution in rivers), 20 years and $3.5 billion in updated infrastructure, life has returned to the Cuyahoga. Today, more than 60 fish species thrive in the river, and its water is cleaner than it’s been for 150 years. And in Cleveland, restaurants and leafy parks line the once-industrial Flats lining the Cuyahoga, including an aquarium!

Chinese cities always amaze me during nighttime. Decoration lights, LED billboards, and lanterns on trees are so colorful that I almost felt like I am walking through a giant theme park instead of a city.

You can say what you want about China and the Chinese, but you can clearly see they are making the world a better place. They are spending money on their country, on their people. They are making the rivers, air, environment cleaner. They are uniting the world with their BRI initiative. Its not just me saying this. The results can be measured in how much the people supports their government and their happiness index. I truly believe this is what the world needs, the unity of its people

Agree with you. It's true about Chinese gov beside of spending money for their militray stronger which also willing to spending more money on their people happiness and living better life too. Atleast Chinese gov do really care their own people. Unlike that evils country which spending more money on militray, weapons and war. Beside of that which the gov don't care much about their own homeless better living theirlife. But rather want to care so much about Taiwan and Taiwanese people. Everybody see the big different between China and that evils country.

wow, I just stayed in Liang Ma He area for last month and visited the river side. But I did not know this cruise. What a pity! Will visit Beijing again and try this cruise trip! Your video is amazing!

The underside of the Good Luck Bridge is a new concept to me for a cruise trip~ The buildings on the sides of the river look so clean and modern, too. I'm sure that would make for a great romantic evening!

In Shanghai, there is this long river called Suzhou creek, which was also very dirty and smelly in the past, but now turned into the best place for jogging and stroll at night.

This video is a great way to calm ourselves down. From being the home of the Olympics and Paralympics to all this transformation, Chaoyang has evolved so much for the better. I know the Venetian in Macau has of course has an artificial canal with gondola rides, but this shows that those in the mainland don't need to travel all the way to Macau when they can experience their own Venice in Beijing! And I bet going through that lock reminds you of the old canals back in the UK! The DPRK's most famous river is the Taedong. It's a generally deep river with a length of 439 km or 272.7 miles. The ancient Korean kingdom of Goguryeo was actually founded on its shores, and Goguryeo is where the word Korea comes from through the shortened version of Goguryeo, Goryeo (also spelled Koryŏ).
