This is alike to the private home called Domus in ancient Rome. They build on 4 sites surrounded courtyards and light well with no windows to the outside

In traditional southern American architecture the placement of courtyards also was vital for airflow cooling the home pre-air conditioning era.

That’s actually a very smart way to build a house. Not going to lie, before I started really liking Chinese culture I was into tiny houses and was considering building multiple tiny houses around a central courtyard before I knew it was a thing

@@CometFire2010 Swastika and 'chinese architectural style',comes from slavic civilisation of vinca,and tripoli,from 5500BC.And the only reason why chinese have swastika,and 'chinese architectural style',is becouse of the slavs from tripoli who has migrated to china in 5500BC.

Kinda sad that these kinds of homes aren't built anymore , i think the only 2 countries that still build courtyard houses are Tajikistan and Uzbekistan .

Why roofs of Chinese traditional houses are bend... curved? This disturbs sliding off snow from the roof.

I forgot where I saw it, but someone explained this as follows: the downward slope refers to the earth and the upward curve refers to the heavens, creating balance and harmony between 天地 for the family under the roof

These are in Beijing where they never get crazy snow loads. The roofs are different as you go further north
