Peter, regarding eBay, I’ve been a member for 12 yrs w/100% positive feedback. I purchase many items in the US and Europe. I sold a camera on July 3rd and positive feedback back was left for me. I’m told my $3,400 pmt is on hold until August 4th because I don’t sell enough. That’s nearly a month. eBay are a bunch of criminals. Please stop encouraging people to use them.

Chat GPT mistook Mao Tse-tung for the emperor. 😂 I’m sure you thought of this Peter. It’s likely there are articles whose title includes the words “emperor Qianlong” BUT the accompanying picture is of Mao Tse-tung. He might get mentioned in that article. So it has his picture not that of the emperor. The AI program knows only to seek the word “Qianlong” and collect any accompanying pictures. It takes onboard all information, and regurgitates a result. Even if that includes mistakes. In this case it tried to create a brand new image from a bank of pictures of 2 different people. It’s clever but simplistic. I’m sure AI will improve. It must, as it takes on more data, the mistakes in there form a smaller & smaller part of the answer. Interesting stuff.
@gjgjgj5493
@gjgjgj5493 11 ай бұрын
the challenge with AI you presented: Since Chatgpt and others basically uses searches in the internet, it uses the whole data it can find and there is a lot of garbage as you know, mixed together. We call it garbage in, garbage out. You will need ground truth of real( and fake) bronces etc. from that th algoirthms can learn from. But there is really good scientific papers you should read, for example classification of real celadon seems to work our really well and there is ongoing research especially driven in China.

I have noticed that if you look on the photos section of gmaps you get some totally misleading photos that are clearly not from that place. Not sure if thats done by AI or just that they didnt even look at what they were posting up., Can be hilarious, but also can be deceiving if you go there and think you will see those particular mountains when they are actually in a different country (Mont Blanc is not in the Andes). So the amount of misinformation out there is massive. As for art, stick with reputable dealers.

I'm sort of wary of people who claim to know everything about all antiques, it's too large of a field to be an expert on everything antique. And also Pawn stars is more of a fake TV reality show that is more into ratings than reality; that one Asian arts analyst I wouldn't trust once he walked into the room, too ridiculous looking. That one old guy who owns a bunch of fakes, I still haven't figured out his motive yet, if he gets some people to believe him he could make a lot of money I guess.

I've come across all four of the 'experts' on the Internet and they are ALL completely laughable. As a comedy piece, especially the first man featured, they cannot be beaten for crass stupidity and comic content. The AI feature at the end was interesting, but the worrying thing is not what it is putting out now, which is clearly nonsense, but what it will put out in the future as its "inteligence" grows and its errors decrease. It will become more authentic and thus believable and that is the worrying aspect.
@SteelDriving
@SteelDriving 11 ай бұрын
Dr. Lori is a joke and a bully. Whenever someone disagrees about a piece, she only ever refers to her PhD. She's unable to make her case on the merits of the piece itself, always instead falling back on her laurels. That's a huge red flag in any context, but especially in antiques. Further, she's not interested in learning from or correcting her mistakes. She deletes disagreeing comments from KZfaq rather than reply to them or even try to have a discussion. Try commenting on the video Peter showed above and see how long it stays up.
