Chinese coast guards were pictured wielding axes and knives before a Filipino soldier lost his thumb in a clash in the South China Sea.
The Philippine sailor suffered the injury after what its military described as "intentional-high speed ramming" by the Chinese Coast Guard.
The incident is the latest outbreak of violence amid heightening tensions over who owns the disputed seas.
China claims 90 percent of the sea as its own sovereign territory but Taiwan and other Southeast Asian countries contest that.
Both China and the Philippines have accused each other of taking provocative action that infringes on their territory.
Monday’s clash occurred when Chinese boats blocked an attempt to resupply a Filipino outpost with food.

The Chinese Coast Guard is not the Chinese Navy. If the Philippines tries to use its military to attack the Chinese Coast Guard, it will make a big mistake. Even though there is a dispute, Vietnamese and Filipino fishermen still treat each other well. I have seen many videos of fishermen from both countries giving each other food. As for China, they sprayed water cannons. destroy fishermen's boats. Do not allow the Philippines to bring supplies. Although the Philippines has US protection, China does not consider it a problem and Vietnam has understood China's intentions. In 1974, China occupied Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago during the war between the two regions of Vietnam. In 1988, China occupied a number of islands in Truong Sa. 64 Vietnamese soldiers died.

I mean. Filipino soldiers are bounded by the chain of command, that's why the soldiers tolerate this type of behaviour from the PRC. But I think in the near future, Conservative nationalist will do it their way. Attacking chinese civilians in the Philippines, which will also be risking attacking Phil-Chinese Civilians. People will not care to distinguish who's who as long as its a Chinese person. Filipinos might tolerate some things, but they can also be barbaric in their own ways. People outside of the Philippines should remember that most of its troops experienced war/skirmishes. Even wasps and bees overwhelm an enemy by sheer number and persistence.

Look at them living with rats and cockroaches on that shipwreck for 20 plus years…….these islands were restored to the republic of China after WWII and the US even lent ships for Chiangmai kaishek’s forces to reestablish control of these islands in the so called Q dash line. The US even helped to do this! So since 1972 when the roc was replaced by the PRC in the UN obviously these islands fall to the Chinese mainland government. Taiwan or roc is too weak and useless to defend these islands so the PRC has to do it.
