This dance is inspired by the historic wall paintings of 敦煌, China where the images of Flying Apsaras appear very often.

The reason the crowd looks bored is because this kind of performance is extremely common in China (there is a Spring Festival Gala every year that is broadcast on national TV featuring all kinds of performances). I'm sure it's not the first time they've seen such a performance.

this is based off of an ancient Chinese legend which says the seven girls are the son of god and that they live in heaven.. the seventh one.. the little one in the center.. ended up coming down and being with a human on earth.

Yeah, that's an old Chinese tale. One of my favorites. However, I've never heard of a dance being commemorated for it.
