I think you've never sawn a log in your life. Why would you see a saw kerf when the camera view was perpendicular to the saw blade? The only people who could see the kerf was the people cutting it, because they were in the same plane as the the cutting edge. The camera wasn't. And was it a standard logging blade? When sharp, no saw marks.

Poorly titled video. I had no idea that this woodworker was building a workbench. Mention "workbench" and you will many more viewers. I would love to see his (your?) philosophy of benches. What kind of wood was it made from? What were your work holding requirements? Would it help to have the legs in the same plane as the top? Was there not a frame saw or bandsaw powered by water or electrical motor near your home to do the laborious work of breaking down and milling the stock? In any case, many thanks for posting this. Beautiful work. John Q.

Good god this dude is a genius.. some of his designs are admittedly a tad over engineered but that’s also what separates him from the countless other channels in the category.. I’ve got stacks of notebooks with designs ideas for jigs and tools and such so most similar uploads I watch, though enjoyable, very rarely leave me with new ideas.. definitely different configurations or uses of ideas but rarely new… but on a very regular basis I’ll see something uploaded by this dude that just makes me pause and think.. sorting through my archives for old designs that may benefit by incorporating things, and/or picturing all the jigs and such that I now have to replace…. I guess this is just a long winded way of expressing my appreciation and respect for this channel.. in a genre that tends to feel a bit stale and repetitive, you sir stand apart..

I guess they didnt film the part splitting the logs that supplied those 8 x 3 boards? Or hand fitting the dovetails? And I dont really think hand sawing logs to suit the job at hand is "making something out of scrap wood
@BigHenFor
@BigHenFor 6 ай бұрын
If you had looked closely, you would have seen those logs came out of a building, problably a basic rural farm house. In their previous life, these logs were cut, debarked, and dried. Then tenons were cut into the ends. They were probably either rafters, or simple fence posts. So yeah, they were scrap wood that came out of a structure. You could hear how dry they were when they were off loaded, because the logs rang out as they fell on top of each other. He was lucky, and probably got them cheap.
