Chinese pianist Lang Lang opens up about his family and childhood

On the occasion of a grand tour of China, Lang Lang recalls his childhood and the experiences that made him the pianist he is today. For Lang Lang, it is a journey back to his roots, having left China eight years ago to embark on his worldwide career.

Born during China's one-child policy, the pianist became his parent's focus. Lang Lang's father gave up his job and moved with Lang Lang to Beijing to develop his musical career. He recognized he had a lot of pressure, but he knew what he wanted: He wanted to dedicate his life to music. And he did it: he became one of the best pianists in the world.

The entire life of the family is subject to discipline, endless daily exhausting work on the piano. Thanks to this severe discipline and work, we were able to listen and enjoy in the best possible way brilliant piano playing of a pieces of classical music. Thanks a lot.

I ve read the book about Lang Lang, I can see he has a great father ( and mother) , they went thru great hardship and poverty to raised him like that, I wish I could have a father like that

langlangさんの成長の記録で中々貴重な映像で素晴らしい映像です。幸いですが昨年１１月９日からランランさんは来日し演奏会を行う際、世話人として一週間付き合いました。その間、ランランさん及びランランさんのお父さんと光栄な貴重な日々を過ごし忘れられないことを経験させて頂きました。この映像のランランさんと実際会ったランランさんと重ねて頭に思い出されて素晴らしい思い出がありました。

There is reverence and respect for family. The discipline and sacrifice are phenomenal. Few of us are in that league.

Tky v much for this most insightful video. It shows clearly the sacrifices of a generation upon whose shoulders Lang Lang stands. Although much understated here, the suffering of those who have gone before is given due honour and respect.
