Oh my, 8 years ago. Your style is more relaxed now and less like a recorded lecture. Definitely interesting and the objects are fantastic but your presentation has improved Peter.

I LOVE THESE VIDEOS ON PORCELAIN FROM CHINA. IT HELPS TO TRAIN MY EYES AND MY AESTHETICS. FOR SOME REASON CHINESE PORCELAIN DRIVES ME JUST INTO EXTACY. ESPECIALLY DEHUA WHITE AND MONOCHROMES. I HAD A LARGE COLLECTION WHICH WAS STOLEN FROM ME IN FLORIDA, AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN THE SAME SINCE. IT WAS LIKE LOSING MY FAMILY.

Hello Adele, We do from time to time when buying collections. But not too often. Years ago when we ran large estate auctions we handled quite a lot of it. Have a good weekend, Peter!

I wonder who these would have been sold to in the 19thC....monochromes seem to be such a refined aesthetic appreciated mostly by true connoisseurs..

Good question, China, during the 19th C., had a fairly large population of collectors and scholars who appreciated and understood monochromes artistically. Their population was around 360 million in 1875. Which was about 30% more than all of Europe. They also had a fairly big in numbers of well to do people. They like westerners, collected. best regards, Peter

I think the European fashions, for most of the 19C, was for all over decoration ....so I think it must have been largely for domestic consumption...I sure enjoy your videos Mr. Combs....that little celadon elephant dropper was probably the most charming thing I've ever seen! So much skill and artistry for such a utilitarian object!
