STORYLINE:
Chinese President was welcomed to Belgrade by his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic on Wednesday.
Xi left France from the Pyrenees on Tuesday evening by plane after he held private meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The welcoming ceremony included military fanfare with wives of both leaders, Tamara Vucic and Peng Liyuan, present.
Signs of pro-China sentiments were clearly visible ahead of Xi's visit on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In Belgrade, a huge Chinese flag was placed on a skyscraper along a roadway leading into the city from the airport.
Smaller Chinese and Serbian flags could be seen downtown and along a highway.
He is headed next to Hungary as part of his European trip aimed at reinvigorating relations at a time of global tensions.
