Jordan13299 Seeing as the girl is friends with the woman I don't see this as being offensive. We are all different from each other, that also means that other people aren't as sensitive as you. Some may brush this off since its a joke but others just keep nagging about it even when they see the other side doesn't care. I think this is just a normal situation where friends are just more indifferent to the situation than they are with acquaintances. I often joke around with my friends and sometimes it really is offensive, however that's just how my friends and I are. So don't get too angry, it's just people being loose with each other.

Tenya Vanquez I agree that Chinese tourists are more likely, but you have to remember that the population will contribute to more rude people even if there are similar percentages of rudeness across all countries. Sometimes they will do things that won’t seem rude or awkward in China, but will in the country they are touring. Same goes for other cultures as well. It can be hard to differentiate between malicious intent and just naivety because we aren’t familiar with it.

This happened to me in real life though when I was working at a store in korea, myeongdong. A mainland chinese tourist angrily walked towards my manager and complained about why I dont know how to speak chinese? (she was literally shouting). I tried to help in english because I had no other way except korean and there was a miscommunication. I apologized several times. We didnt only serve chinese customers. There were many tourists from japan america southeast asia and we never had any issues. Anyway it was a frightening but also a very strange experience and after that I became scared to deal with foreign customers.

I just visited Taiwan and it was very easy to figure out who was Taiwanese and who was Chinese tourists. I went the the famous Taipei 101 building and was crammed in with a bunch of tourists who screamed off the top of their lungs just because the elevator lights dimmed and the roof looked like stars. One lady who was in front of me kept on backing into me and I was very frustrated because I didnt want to cause any problems by getting mad at her. After that, there was either another group or the same one who were screaming when taking pictures of each other next to a little cartoon character. The next day I visited the Taiwan night market and a Chinese mother screamed at her son very loud. I personally do not hate Chinese people, but many visitors from China make their county look bad because they think that the norms and behaviors of China apply everywhere around the world.

As a Chinese person I’m deeply offended. OF COURSE a Japanese person probably won’t know Mandarin. This lady was rude. I don’t understand how people can act like this. I'm a Polyglot, whenever I visit a country, I'll try to speak their language and when I couldn't I just politely saying, "I'm sorry I don't understand" then I'll continue by using body language or sign language in a proper place. What I'm saying is, you can't just expect people to know your language and force them to understand. This is cultural exchange's manner needed for any tourist.

I have a few encounters with Chinese tourists in the city. Gladly, they were not like this. One time, they ask directions politely even if they used a translator app. There was also a time when it was difficult understanding what they want to say, but they find ways just to make you understand. It was hard but fun meeting them. There are millions or billions of Chinese out there and not all of them is rude and impolite.

Although in rural areas and 2n tier cities, you are more likely to meet rude person. Its also important to take note that many Chinese mainlands talk loudly, giving the impression that they're angry while they're not. And most importantly, China is safe for tourists (as long as you didn't insult the communist party, communist leaders or China as a nation). I've found some people in the internet who were afraid that Chinese polices may detain innocent tourists, and this kind of fear is largely not true at all. Last year my family and I literally shocked at 11 p.m. as three Chinese tourists banged the door of our airbnb rented apartment in Tokyo and marched inside, going in and out each room even flipping and rummaging our belongings, talking in Chinese without even saying greetings and making excuse! When we asked what happened, they rudely pushed their phone so that we could see the translations of what they wanted. Apparently their son's toy was thought to be left at that apartment which they rented a day before we came. When they couldn't find it they just left without saying sorry, not even a gesture!! We were thoroughly flabbergasted and felt so harrased. Of course, that does not represent all Chinese but I can understand if it causes bad image of Chinese tourists.

Here in Japan, we're all about respect. I know that the first clip was a joke (however I didn't find it funny at all, what was the point in that?), however the second one when the Japanese person said "I have never seen such disgusting eating habits" means that you REALLY disrespected whatever food was on your plate. Eating is very simple, however judging by the Osaka man's choice of words, it's easy to say the other two "women" were playing with their food. You shouldn't do that anywhere, not just in Japan. If you're going to visit another country, treat it with respect. It's absolutely unacceptable if you're going to act like three year-olds having a playdate.
