As China’s international tourism market increases, there have been an increasing amount of reports about "uncivilized behavior" by Chinese tourists. Chinese tour operators have decided to be proactive against this trend, and are choosing to remind travelers to mind their manners given that they are ambassadors of their country. Within travel hubs throughout the country tour guides have been making it a point to ensure that travelers are well informed about local etiquettes at their destinations.

I literally got pushed with two hands by a Chinese tourist in Vegas watching the Bellagio fountain show. She walked up and pushed me, despite the fact that I was at least a foot taller and probably outweighed her by 40 pounds. I was incredulous at such direct rudeness. She wanted my spot and that’s the way she decided to take it. I pushed back and yelled at her and she looked astonished. How can behavior like this be considered OK by any culture?

it is not ok, not even in china, but the communist government has made it ok and so now chinese people have completely lost their dignity and manners because the government controls everything they do. In school, they were never taught manners but instead they are taught history that was modified by the communist government along with intense academics.

I watched a video about Chinese tourists who drove Parisians crazy. They'd spit on the floor inside restaurants and would find it strange that none of the French staff spoke Chinese. There is also a sign in Chinese in the Louvre courtyard that says, "Don't defecate on the museum grounds." It's not written in any other language.

I went to Bangkok with my family last year and we went to one of the tallest buildings,for a buffet. There were sooo many Chinese tourists And I was so shocked cuz we had to wait for 15-20 minutes just to get into the elevator,then after the buffet We were waiting for the elevator , to go down (we were the first ones to wait) Then suddenly a huge crowd of Chinese tourists came and just pushed us and my sister and I lost my mom and dad and my brother *Found our parents downstairs but we had to look for my brother for 1 hour Turns out the tourists gave him no chance to get in the elevator 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m an Asian American and I deal with this crap everyday. In my college there’s a large international student population but they don’t even bother to learn English. They get mad at you for not speaking Chinese and they spit on the ground in the school building. Who the hell spits during class onto the floor. They will smoke inside and would get mad if security forces them to leave. Not only that there’s a park near my college. They will literally leave all their trash on the ground and not bother to throw it out. It’s fucking filthy, if you’re visiting a country you weren’t raised in mind your manners.

No they are not show offs, they probably hated japan. China is full of giant amusement parks, skyscrapers, man made entertainment etc. Japan respects the beauty of nature and the quiet. Chinese tourists simply do not understand why would someone like a static and “boring” place like Japan. That’s why they want to bring their kind of fun in by being sociable, talking loudly, and climbing because nature and shrines aren’t their type of thing.

And this is becoming a habit of not just the Chinese. Also tourists and even immigrants (permanent residents) from other Asian countries like Vietnamese (they are almost as bad as the Chinese in manners!), Thailand, Indonesia and many others behave the same way in Europe at least. Even when you are their customer (nail salon, boba shop, Asian shop), they'll smile to your face but gossip about you in their language and say racist shit. Some middle-aged women behind the counter outright ignore you when you want to pay and will continue being on their phone as if you're not standing there, although they clearly looked you in the eye. I stopped supporting their businesses because of it.

They are extremely rude and disrespectful, they leave trash EVERYWHERE, they pretend to not understand me when I'm guesturing for them not to smoke (right next to small children!!), and I can't even tell you all the gross things they've done. Is it really normal in China for small children to just pull down their pants and piss in a public area when we have bathrooms available? is it normal in China not to wash your hands after using the bathroom?? is it normal to just blow smoke in the face of infants??? I honestly can't wrap my head around these tour groups...

Kudo to CGTN for posting the video about unacceptable Chinese citizens behaviour outside the country. As Chinese and not from China, my suggestion for the problems is to post signs in Chinese language in these areas. So ignorant is not an excuse. If these uncouth and rude behaviour persist especially in a non smoking area is for the security to carry a can of fart (ammonia) to spray at smokers. Do it after warning the smokers. Explain to these idiots that they are tarnishing the good image of the rise of China rise and civilization. I am pretty sure that the Chinese government is aware of socially unacceptable behaviour hence do not bash China government for imposing social credit scores as a human rights abuse. It is not easy to govern and change the behaviour of the "nouveau rich" over night. I too find that the many western governments perpetuating lies about China minority and other issues is a dangerous game to play for the safety of the world.

I've been to China several times and I think the problem stems from people simply behaving rudely in their own country, so naturally when they travel overseas, they carry the same rude behaviours with them. The Chinese shouldn't need to be taught manners for the purposes of travelling abroad, they should simply be practising manners as a matter of course every day, including at home. That way when they travel, they simply behave politely as they do back at home. But no, whenever I go to China, I frequently encounter... * Absolute lack of table manners (except for covering their mouths when using toothpicks; seems to be the only polite thing they do at the table) * No sense of turn taking or queuing. Be it on the road or on foot, people frequently push in and shove. * SHOUTING! There are a lot of Chinese people who need to be mindful to stop using their outdoor voice when indoors! * Public toilets be like... I don't even want to describe it... * Smoking manners also non existent. Although smokers everywhere are pretty much bad, Chinese smokers are especially terrible. I've been on buses in China where there are massive "No Smoking" signs, and passengers and even drivers smoke on board! * Chinese people deface their own cultural relics! Anyone who's been to the Great Wall of China can see that the public part of the wall is _covered_ in graffiti etched into the stones. And it's not even particularly clever graffiti, it's all just "Ping was here." Yeah... that's it. Temples, palaces etc. are all in poor condition. Contrast this with visiting ancient relics in Taiwan or Japan where relics and sites are in immaculate condition because people respect and preserve their heritage! * They fart in your face as a matter of course. Is this a greeting that they don't teach in phrase books? No, I am not making this up. * Abysmal customer service (or utter lack thereof). I've had store keepers outright lie to me and even cheat me of my money. The complete reverse of shopping say in Japan or Taiwan. * Anti-social? My daughter attends both Chinese and Japanese language schools. The parents are her Japanese school are all really friendly and polite, and I've made friends with many other parents there. The parents at her Chinese school are all aloof and keep to themselves. When we come to pick up our children, most of the other parents either keep to themselves with their heads buried in their phones, or to their own cliques. I find the parents are her Japanese school to be far more inclusive. * Deliberately unhelpful. If you don't speak Japanese but you ask a Japanese person for help in another language, they will often bend over backwards to try and help you. But as a non-Chinese speaker, sometimes when I ask strangers for help, I either get ignored or even yelled at in an abusive tone of voice. Even when I'm trying to write down what I want to say (because I can read/write Chinese characters), they refuse to look at what I'm writing and simply shove their hand in my face. Wow. ^This has been my personal experience anyway.

+Goktimus Prime You're absolutely correct. The very concept of having an awareness and consideration of other people is completely absent in Chinese culture. It was pathetically funny when the narrator states that these rude behaviors is a result of ignorance of cultures. They should have an awareness and consideration of other people at all times. It should even be natural! Were you shocked when the children said that traffic laws must be obeyed when overseas? What is the point of having laws in China then if they are not obeyed?

It's so unfortunate that the non-mainland Chinese, the foreign-educated Chinese and the well-educated Chinese are categorized into this stereotype. There are many of us around the world. Being-nice is a very infectious sentiment. But same goes for the opposite of the spectrum. In China, everyone is for themselves and only themselves. And it's poisoning the culture.
@goktimusprime
@goktimusprime 8 жыл бұрын
bpoon2k2 I've encountered plenty of rudeness from non-Mainland Chinese too. When I went to Hong Kong I found that people there were just as bad at pushing in and not standing in queues. Just yesterday I had lunch at a Hong Kong café where the lady at the counter just barked at me in Cantonese (even though I don't speak it and we're in an Anglophone country), and she did the same thing when I went to pay my bill! :o And when I gave her my money, she just slapped the change on the counter in front of me! It was like, "Here, NEXT!" :o Rude!!! Taiwan is the only Sinophone country that I've been to where people are really polite, although I find that Taiwan is - in terms of modern culture - more Japanese than Chinese (which is understandable considering that Taiwan was a model Japanese colony). Taiwan's heritage may be Chinese, but their modern culture is absolutely more Japanese (I've lived in Japan; people there are super polite!).

+Goktimus Prime I grew up in hk when I was small. One thing I can tell u for certainty is that those who didn't queue up were not from hk. Queueing up is such a ingrained mindset in hk that people queue up just becuz they see a queue! As far as the rude lady, I bet u that she was at least 60 years old, unmarried and never went to school in hk a day in her life. Ppl in hk are not perfect. They are loud in public and much like the Americans, many have quite an ego. But for those who were educated under the British system, most are quite civilized and polite.

Chinese's bad attitude and manner in public are the only problems that they would never bother to copy or steal from other countries. Many Asian countries you can name, like Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Loas, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Mongolia, have been teaching kids about public manner and decent attitude to each other, friends, parents and seniors. Modern China just lost that old Chinese culture. I'm not saying all of them. Some Chinese friends of mine are well mannered and respectful to others.

China has over 1.3 billion populations and not all Chinese tourists are bad behaved. Chinese young people are well mannered whereas the older generations suffered a lot from the war, poverty in the past, they didn't have a chance to be educated. Manners are depending on the education. Furthermore, please respect to our territory: Hong Kong is part of China and so do Taiwan. Grand Canyon experience: waiting for a shuttle bus and was 2nd in line. Some Chinese tourists with kids sent their kids up to the front of the line and then waited a few moments later the parents came along and nudged their way past the 1st person in line. The bus driver saw what had happened and stepped out and said, "all disabled people to the front of the line" and 8 or 9 people came up and he sat them in the first 3 rows and then started asking the people who had been first in line to step in side. By the time he was done the Chinese people had to wait for the next bus. I have found that the great majority of Asian people are easy to get along with, friendly and nice and interested in sharing their culture but as tourists they need lessons in the great American tradition of how to stand in line and be patient.

I lived in China for many years and spitting is a huge problem, especially in some cities. In one area I lived which was close to Beijing city centre, you couldn't go outside for more than 10 minutes without hearing disgusting spitting noises. I couldn't go for a walk anywhere without stressing out about this. Many times, people on e-bikes just spat without looking who was around them. You have really got to be aware of everyone when you go out if this habit bothers you. Also, it's everywhere on the ground. You have to constantly watch where you're walking. They don't care where they do it so other people have to suffer. It really made me stressed for many years. I'm not generalising here. There are many people who don't do this but there are also far too many who do. Also, smoking is allowed pretty much anywhere. You might be in a shop, someone walks in smoking and then you have to either quickly get out whilst walking through a cloud of smoke or just hang around until they leave. It's horrible for non smokers. Smoking is a very anti social habit, affecting everyone else who doesn't smoke. In China, it's a struggle to avoid it. Restaurants try to encourage people not to smoke in restaurants, some successfully with signs, but it can't be enforced legally. It's just too big a population to control in terms of these issues and it will never get resolved. Be aware of this if you're planning on visiting China.

Likewise, some Japanese are polite (whether or not they adheres to the "rule") and some Japanese are outright rude and loud. Again this has more to do with their personality and educational level. Whenever I ask someone if they are Chinese, they always go "No! I'm American Chinese! I was raised here!!" ppl in Hong Kong had the same reaction. They never like mainland Chinese unless their siblings.

It's because you ask a crappy question that immediately makes them think you are asking for their national identity. Of course they won't say they are Chinese, because that would mean they were born in China and hold citizenship there. Chinese Americans won't say they are Chinese nationals. The same goes for people in Hong Kong.

Idk I live in Canada and honestly I’ve seen a lot of tourists here in Banff , most Chinese tourists here are actually quite well mannered , but I’ve seen a couple groups that are more ‘rude’ , and that mostly consists of old Chinese people and people in their forty or fifties . And not gonna lie a lot of Korean tourists especially Korean old people are quite loud too ? I asked my family d friends and they said that it’s because the ones that were not so well educated especially like to travel in huge tour groups because it’s cheaper and they do the research and planning for you? Where as people that are more educated would behave normally and not stand out as much and just took in the sceneries quietly. I definitely don’t think those few rude Chinese tourists should be made to represent the country though. I mean to be fair North Americans are known to do some pretty stupid stuff in other countries as well so 😂😂😂 I guess do your research before you take off
