Rguns has been offering these Chinese Type 54 pistols for a while now and I decided it was finally time to break down and add one to the collection. The Type 54 is the Chinese version of the Russian TT-30 Tokarev pistol. The Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) adopted the Type 54 as their standard sidearm in 1954. It's my understanding that these are fairly recent imports by Rguns. They have them listed as Very good to Excellent condition and I would agree with that as far as the external condition is concerned. These handguns have been refinished and that has a lot to do with their nice condition. Unfortunately the example I received has a bore that is in pretty bad shape. It is visibly pitted and dark. Many Type 54 pistols will have chrome lined bores but mine did not. It still shot fairly well. The first shot had a failure to go into battery malfunction but that seemed to be a one-off thing because it was 100% after that. I like the pistol but I'm not really happy with what I got for the money spent. These are fairly expensive for a Tokarev and I expected a better bore for almost 400 bucks.
Thanks for Watching!

SO GLAD they used the trigger dingus instead of drilling these. I got a NOS Russian trigger for mine so it looks all original except the stupid import mark. I wish I knew how they got around the Chinese import ban....maybe these were in Albania w/ the SKS's These are still in stock for tree fiddy. If you're even considering it, DO IT! That price will jump for sure, these were not available for a few decades in large numbers due to import bans and the lack of permanent frame modification will help them go up in collector value.

I got a romanian TTC, but it has a brand new Type 54 barrel. The original romanian barrel was in bad shape but I found a new barrel. The groupings drastically improved, and it's a solid shooter. I was worried about fitment but it it fit like a glove.

Great video! My shop got about 8 of them in. The refinishing can be veeeeery different gun-to-gun. Some, but not all, had new barrels. I appreciate the import marks being on the bottom of the slide so they're not obtrusive. For the purposes of restoring it to as original of condition as possible, I understand why the trigger safety was added rather than a manual, but I found 3 of the 8 examples I handled to be practically unusable as-shipped. How is the zero on yours? That rear sight seemed a little tall but I haven't put any rounds through one, so it might not be an issue
@ReadinessReviews
@ReadinessReviews 3 жыл бұрын
It does seem to shoot high. I think the zero on most Tokarevs is at about 50-60 meters though. I was in pretty close so not too surprised it shot high.

I had always wanted a tok pistol. But hated the shit thumb safeties that had been put on them for years on the imports. When sweaty Ben got the Yugo M57's with the trigger safety I jumped on that like a fat kid on cake. Then they had the original unmolested triggers. So I picked up 1 of those. But my gun back to correct. I also removed the stupid mag drop safety. Love it now.

@bmw328igearhead
@bmw328igearhead 2 ай бұрын
1: 10,000 rounds, ish, that's a generic answer. 2: if stored properly, 100+ years 3: Different people will tell you different things, I personally don't like leaving my mags loaded and sitting in the safe, because it will (eventually) weaken the mag spring. (That rule applies for pretty well all firearms) Take care of your TT33, Type54, M57 and you will have a powerful and reliable sidearm for well beyond your years.

45 acp vs 7.62×25 mm which is more powerful and which is best for self defence
@bmw328igearhead
@bmw328igearhead 2 ай бұрын
Personal opinion, 7.62x25 for both. It's a far faster bullet, better penetrator, and can dump it's energy inside. I prefer Lehigh defence extreme penetrator style bullets for this task. .45acp is typically subsonic, not great for penetrating, but decent for soft tissue damage when employing hollowpoint ammunition, and no armor involved.
