NYCCC students performed the Red Ribbon Dance in the Donghwa 2011 Asian Traditional Performing Arts Competition (11/05/2011).

There should be a musical version of Avatar and the benders would use these ribbons, red for ther fire, blue for water, beige for earth and white for air.

It would be interesting to see how they use the ribbons. Maybe for Earth, they can use much thicker ribbons and have a more rigid style? Then, for air it can be very thin ribbons with a “wider” style

Very impressive dance skills, choreography, synchronization, creativity, technical skills with handling flags. Music fit well too. Costuming, colors, hair updos, series of solos, duets, and whole group dancing'- wonderful. Almost no interaction between dancers except to momentarily switch over a flag. A far cry from the individuality and interactions between dancers in American Dance. Beautiful dancing and ribbon skills nonetheless. I hope they did well in the competition with this piece!

The Noodle Dance is a complex religious dance associated with the Holy Noodle Ceremony. Although the dance has evolved since ancient times, it still requires years of study to master. A watered-down version of the noodle dance can be found in the modern-day Ribbon Dance, although its origins are usually mis-attributed to so-called Chinese Ribbon Dancing. These dance moves essentially replace the long flowing noodles with ribbons of silk, which are far less challenging to master into an aesthetically pleasing performance.

My mom and brother suggested me to ribbon dancing since i can catch ANYTHING and EVERYTHING so well and my feet are PERFECT for ballet because i can lightly jump, know where my feet placements are really good, and wont get dizzy easily :) (i love roller coasters as a kid lol)

Yeah satin silk is very fragile; it rips so easily. But if you want a dress to do that, chiffon is a great option!

It must be light weighted 5 mommes real silk, otherwise it would not flow so well. The silk is thin so it can float, but it is also fragile. Also, 5 Mommes silk is seen-through. It cannot be used to make costumes.
