It seems to me that Swamiji makes an unfounded causation between dating and being a "subnormal or under-middle class type of person somehow surviving in the world" or being a "third-rate person". Or more extremely, that going on a date implies that "your future is lost." I agree that focus is essential in becoming a master in a particular field, but saying that a relationship is a wasteful distraction seems narrow-minded. For many people, relationships provide a great deal of personal growth, teaching youth to foster and maintain strong personal bonds. This skill is arguably more valuable than single-minded focus. On the flip side, I can see why Swamiji would propagate this extreme message with teenagers, who likely don't make the greatest decisions when it comes to relationships. It just doesn't seem fair to me to blatantly denigrate the concept of dating altogether.
