Hi friends!
A lot of people have asked about traveling with chinchillas, so I thought I’d take Linus on our trip to see my family in Georgia to show how I go about it. Also, Linus’ feet still need cream and it’s best if I apply instead of our caretakers since he’s so squirmy!

u guys probably should blur out license plates as people can find addresses and personal information with plates. and same with showing the outside of your house and addresses of houses near yours. the internet is a scary place so its best to take precautions. none the less, we love linus

No, they can’t. That has been outlawed for some time. You can’t look up anyone’s information with a license plate number. You must be a police officer or a government official.

Linus is so cute! My 5 year old boy and his twin sister are really hyper. They love petting in their cage but when they are out for their free time they go wild, even after an hour or two running in a separate room. I can’t get them to sit still, they are always looking for their next place to run off to 😊

Ah, I grew up in southwestern Virginia and I'm always missing Appalachia, so I loved seeing all the scenery on your drive! It's a beautiful part of the country :)

I had a petflys small dog carriers that my chinchillas would go in. When i took them in the car. They passed away rip. Have fun and much success to you and your family always.

Moved from NJ to FL drove my two chins all the way down . Used some portable fans for any times they wouldn’t be in A/C and other tip was when stop get ice to put in bowl so they can drink it as it melts or even chew on it

We go camping A LOT. We live in middle Georgia! Our chin, Chloe - does not like traveling. It takes forever to get her to go into her travel cage, even when we tempt her with her favorite snacks. I don't blame her! Her home is a two story chin mansion! Lol We have to make sure the car stays running on stops. She stays in the truck for at least an hour...sometimes two with it running until we can get the camper down to a suitable temperature. Even on long trips, I've seen her go all day without drinking. It always concerns me so much! The moment we get her settled in the camper and I see her taking sips....I always breathe a sigh of relief! Having a chin is WORK. We love her and she's worth it.

I live in the desert and the summers are brutal even with a good car AC system. I wait for winter time to take my chin to his anual vet checks. I had to take him to the vet in the summer once as an emergency and packed some ice with the AC on high.

I have guinea pigs not chinchillas but mine live in C&C cages. My vet got a kick out of my carrier when i brought it in the first time 3-4yrs ago. I made a 2x1 C&C carrier. originally it didnt have a lid but when we had to do a surgery so the cage was going to be left in the vets office with unfamiliar doggos we added a lid with 2 small D-links. to keep her safe. Because i have a very large but gentle dog at home my pigs know dogs and know they are safe so its created situations for dog owners at the vet to meet a piggie in a safe way and see how their pet reacts. Also as for water we dont normally take a bottle since its just the vets office and usually no more than an hr or 2 but i do bring cucumber for the piggie since it has lots of water in it to get them threw the short outing

Can you make a video on how you got people to take care of your chins? And maybe how you feel comfortable doing it? I went on a trip earlier this year and my mom took care of my chin for me and he ended up sustaining an injury and having his leg amputated because of it. So now I don't feel comfortable and leaving him alone at all. Plus Kiwi can be aggressive towards people he doesn't know so all my friends are scared of him. So I would love to know how you manage to do it!

We always get our chinchilla Bonifaciy with us) he sitting in special bag, with him stuff, sleeping, eating. But before travelling we trying so hard to catch him😅 hi doesn't like travelling He likes him home.

Hello! Do you have the cage crafter’s double carrier? I was interested in it for my 2 chinnies but I didn’t know the middle part came out! Would this be the same one you use for Henry & chip?

Yep! This is the double and I just used pliers to get the middle out. If I travel with Henry and Chip they stay in this together!

i'm going to do a video about this! its a midwest 3' puppy playpen and i covered it with fleece and secured using safety pins. super simple, no sewing required, just the initial investment of the fence and fleece might be a little bit to spend but very worth it!

Interesting, when you said Linus can't enjoy the yard, it made me wonder--can chinchillas be harness trained? I used to have rabbits and I harness trained them so they could hop around the yard, but I suppose chinchillas are different.

Hi! I’m a college student and I have been wanting a chinchilla since I was 10, and have been wrangling my brain for ideas on how to make it work. My apartment has good reliable air conditioning, as does my home. I was wondering how much travel would be bad for a chin? We’d basically have to do 3 trips a year from my apartment to my house (winter break, spring break, summer break). Each trip would take about an hour and a half there, and an hour and a half back. Would this be too stressful for a chin?

if they’re chewing it during playtime, take it away, and definitely don’t leave it in a cage! Linus doesn’t really chew things when he plays, so I let him explore those boxes!

@@sharonginger2997 If you mean on a plane ride then absolutely not. Chinchillas are temperature sensitive creatures so just a hot, stuffy plane could kill them. Plus the pressure on their poor ears. Even if not by plane I would say try to avoid at all costs especially if traveling somewhere new. You have to know 100% that you can control the temperature in the environment they are in. So no avoid it.
