Chinwag is a chat about life and whatever else comes up, hosted monthly by therapist Chris Madden at Outlaws Yacht Club, Leeds UK.
Acid jazz impresario Eddie Piller joined us on the Chinwag settee to chat life, crazy experiences, being in the thick of it and what drives the desire to live a life in music.
Undoubtedly best known for the label he co-founded in 1988 with Gilles Peterson, Eddie’s influence on culture goes back to the beginning of the 80’s and his love of Mod. He has subsequently been there in the continual reinvention of this very British style/music/cultural phenomenon, as a commentator, influencer and now, elder statesman.
Through his Acid Jazz label, he not only defined a sound and style but helped to launch the careers of, amongst others, Jamiroquai James Taylor Quartet, Brand New Heavies and Galliano. As a music lover and DJ, he plays all over the world and is renowned for his incredible radio shows. Eddie’s story is both riotous and warming.
Chinwag supports MAP (Music and Art Production)- a Leeds based charity who provide young people access to creative projects.

Excellent story & Eddie is right about how soon we have forgotten how dangerous it was back then. Being from an Irish catholic family but born in London , I grew up being into sub cultures like mod & skinhead and did not pay attention to much of what went on in Northern Ireland. Whenever my Dad drove us back to Ireland in the 70's & early 80's , he would not even stop in Dublin & would just head straight across to the west. A friend of his who he worked with for many years always offered us to come and stay in Derry. My Dad would always make polite excuses of not going to visit him. So I asked him one day , why we dont go and see him. He was like " are f****** right in the head boy ? No f****** way.
