This is interesting because my father made half of Truly's car! The engine and chassis were built to Dads own original design and Russels water is where the car must have been so that Dads chassis is the part that falls in the water!

Katie, that's awesome thank you for sharing. I had the opportunity as a very young lad to see Chitty herself. It always was my favorite movie and the biggest reason for why I got into vintage auto restoration. The cars built for the movie were really quite something!

Thanks for posting this. Never realised about the Kempton Park Waterworks until seeing this, and I used to live only a mile down the road at Hanworth!! Chitty is part of my family's history as we were the nearest house, or to be exact bungalow, to the windmill. My mother used to wheel me down to the windmill everyday in my pram to watch the filming in progress of Chitty!
@vincecox291610 жыл бұрын
Hi Graham. How lovely for you to have lived so close. It is a shame that the original house and barn are no more. Almost sacrilege to pull them down!

Never knew about kempton waterworks my father in law worked there for many years. Watched the movie so many times and never noticed. Watching this I knew before the caption told me.
@gilgameshofuruk40604 жыл бұрын
@@vincecox2916 The outbuildings to the windmill were constructed for the film. There was a TV programme for the 50th anniversary. I was both impressed by the construction and disappointed that in real life it was just a windmill by itself.

I was born in High Wycombe and lived there until I was almost 7. I still remember the outings to Fingest, Turville, and Turville Heath almost 60 years ago. The Chilterns are a lovely part of England. On occasion, have returned for a nice walk and then a pint at the Bull & Butcher. Since then we’ve been in Canada and am currently breathing in smoke from forest fires.

Very nice. It's so refreshing that so many of those fine old buildings in the film are still standing, though some of the vegetation has grown considerably since 1968. Perhaps the movie encouraged a historic preservation movement in those parts! Thanks for posting!

We all gathered around the big Screen this Christmas to watch Chitty Bang Bang. The youngest we have here are 17 years old. It's still a great entertaining, and intentionally cheesy masterpiece. Love it. Wish all of England looked like this place still. This was truly English.

Man In The Wilderness ; I just read a trivia comment regarding that very fact. It seems the producers wanted Dick VanDyke for the part, but he only agreed if he didn't have to use the English accent. He caught a little criticism for his 'Cockney' accent in the Mary Poppin's film a few years earlier. I also read the producers wanted Julie Andrews, aka Mary Poppin's for the part of Truly Scrumptious, but she had a current engagement and wasn't able to do it.

Well done Vincent, excellent job. Thank you for identify the locations. I guess it was your curiosity that led to this being made, wanting to either confirm the locations or help preserve the accuracy of where scenes were shot. I have a similar interest in helping preserve the accuracy of what films/TV programmes were shot at Brunel University along (my place of employment) as well as when and with which actors - and thus avoiding errors. For me the location curiosity started when I worked on A Clockwork Orange - but that's another story. Well done mate.
