Dick Van Dyke, you absolutely beautiful human being. I can’t say enough how happy i am that he just celebrated his 97th birthday and a video showing him still seemingly in good health and responding to someone on the street quite openly. I would like to point out that the love interest's name, Truly Scrumptious, is actually intentional wordplay. If you took away the "l" in Truly and replace it with a "d", you get Trudy. So in a sense, the love interest's name is actually Trudy Scrumptious. She was called Truly because of how both the children misheard when the maiden introduced herself to them and their father.

I can't imagine any logical reason for all the angst and strife caused by Megan's post.....but I"m no longer an adolescent and perhaps that's the reason.

I am Japanese, and my father used to show me this movie when I was a child. At that time, I could not understand English at all, but it was my favorite movie. It has been a long time since I listened to this song, but I still remember the melody vividly. That is how impressive this song is.

I saw this film with my parents and two sisters at Mile End Cinema back in 1969. When we came out of the cinema the car from the film was parked up on Mile End Road on display! Happy times.

My wife used to sing this to our rescued dog, Phoebe. And that day when they were coming home from the vet, Phoebe took her last breath, cuddled in her arms, as she sang this song.

I sing this to my chihuahua who is named chili bean so instead of “chitty chitty bang bang” it’s “chilly chilly bean dog” hahaha SHE LOVES IT and when she finally passes I will forever remember one of my favorite movies with one of my all time favorite pets I have ever had

I love how up until around 0:25 you can see tire tracks in the dirt and grass from previous takes.

I grew up watching this and went back to critically and objectively look at this just to see if I was blinded by childhood nostalgia and to see if it really was as good as I remember. I tried I really tried to find something wrong with this and I just couldn't the only weak link in this movie I guess would be the kid characters but good kid actors are very rare to come by. This movie stands the test of time as being whimsical magical and give that imaginative warm fuzzy feel that must be shared to the world you can't help but smile evry time this song comes on

TheMasterOptimus The kids in a fantasy-action movie like this CAN'T be too "good" (unique, memorable, strong characters), b/c then the kids in the AUDIENCE won't easily be able to project themselves into those roles/see themselves taking the adventure instead. Here, the car and the crazy situation(s) are the stars, not the kids -- nor even vanDyke.
