"Nomadland" director Chloé Zhao made history at tonight's Academy Awards, becoming the first woman of color to win Best Director. Zhao is only the second woman ever to win the award, tonight marking yet another milestone for the award show.

Gosh i cant wait!!!! Fiege said that when Chloe is pitching the Eternals style. They were such an awe and called her back again. Before she will pitch it to other studio..

However I do feel a bit concern about Zhao directing Eternals since she's hasn't had a big experience in directing a big budget blockbuster movie yet. But I still hope she can do well in making the movie and I hope it won't be disappointed

@@mrsmith7936 She already won the Golden Lion in Venice, wich is way more prestigious and harder to get than an Oscar and it’s not so much influenced by politics or marketing. So it’s stupid to say that she won because she is a woman and not because her job was clearly the best. Have you even seen the film?

Well, then ask her about her own stories, instead of keeping referring to other people in such a short backstage interview that should have been longer. This moment was hers. If Kathryn Bigelow won the award after Chloe Zhao, would anybody ask "Hey Bigelow have you talked to Zhao?"??? Just tired of seeing this kind of passive snubs when Asians are under their spotlights.

@@xiaozhang6565 agree, I kinda sense that too. But people are being compared or referred to a lot, asians or not. So it can be argued if they are doing this specifically to asians. I just don't want to think too much into it. But at least she handled the interview very well. She just didn't let those kind of being-shaded feeling get into her. Let's see if that continues.

People aren't just congratulating her for her skin colour - she was awarded for being the best at her craft this year and she's the first asian woman to ever receive the award, which YES is something worth celebrating. In a year full of anti-asian rhetoric and violence coming from the evil oppressive right its worth saying that she was able to emerge victorious in spite of them. If you really think that she's being solely lauded because of her skin colour then you're looking in the wrong places and your brain is poison. Shut the fuck up.

It is a wonderful movie. The story about grief, losses, and kindness in people is inspiring. The director and the leading actor deserved the award recognition. The Oscar is a beautiful event that entertains the audience. They all looked beautiful and elegant.

Here's what I looked up: As of now, Chloe Zhao has written, produced, directed, and edited 3 movies, and they include: Songs my Brothers Taught Me (2015) The Rider (2017) Nomadland(2020) All 3 of these movies are independant films. While critics give all three of these movies scores in the 90's with percentages, the audience scores are more interesting. Zhao's first film got a 66% on RT. The Rider (2017) got an 82%, and Nomadland got an 81%. It seems interesting because from what it looks like, Chloe got off on a rocky start with her first film, but got better with her second and third film. What's also interesting is that her upcoming film the Eternals from Marvel Studios is the only one that isn't in her creative control. She's directing the film, but she's not writing, producing, or editing the film. I haven't watched any of her movies, but she doesn't seem like a bad person. I haven't heard her say a bunch of out of touch bullshit.

It really annoys me when they qualify a person as "of color" This is very disrespectful and ignorant. With all due respect to Americans, you are not the only white people on the planet, there are white Latinos, there are white Asians, why do you think that if I am Chinese or Latina, I am of color? The important thing here is that she is the first Chinese woman who has won, it does not matter if she is black, mixed or white or almost white or almost black. Not everyone has to be an American to be white. There are different types of skin, if my skin is less white than yours, it does not mean that it is black. Please, more respect! The same happened with Anya Taylor Joy, she is Latina and is whiter than snow, but just because she is Latina, they classified her as someone of color. That is ridiculous and ignorant.
