Actually for the most part the make the best of it. They party alot, most tend to become alchemists or tinkerers (just like Dragonlance, but now they do so because they need to survive) Basically in Pathfinder it is possible for a gnome to literally die of boredom.

Yeah, I totally agree. I apologize, I never meant to imply that 3.5 or Pathfinder are bad systems, because they're not. I have very fond and enjoyable memories of the systems, and when I'm invited to play a game under them, I never say no. If a person doesn't like the way 4th edition plays, they have every right not to, as it is a massive departure from previous editions. The only intention I ever had was to say that the system is still fine for roleplaying.

In other words, as a species, Pathfinder Gnomes ARE tricksters, brownies, sprites and faefolk, who have a tendency to get really bored. With other people, idle hands are the devil's workshop, with gnomes, hands of anykind are up to some mischief. Besides, the classes they usually prefer? Alchemist, Summoner, Sorcerer, Illusionist and Thief.

The only reason they say that is because the gnome was in the 3e phb. There was a lot of stuff that was in the 3e phb that isn't in the 4e one. Half Orc, monk, Druid, Bard, Sorceror. All except the monk appeared in the phb2, except the monk which will be in the phb3. They weren't forgotten, they just put new stuff in like they do every edition.

Yea D< Gnomes are one of my faves personaly n.n

If not, then all that happens is they get a bit older, their hair turns from say, flamboyant purple with yellow streaks, to a bit more grey, the bleaching is more aging than it is anything else. Gnomes in Pathfinder are basically what you get if you take Dragonlance gnomes, troll dolls, garden gnomes, traditional D&D gnomes and fairies/goblins from classic Celtic and English myth and rolled them together.

The host and the gnome must have, like 50 clerics standing by for every episode.

Same reason every player race in the PHB1 has a monster write-up. If you're gonna go up against them, you're gonna need them in the MM.

Yes, only when attempting to do non-lethal damage. The attempt is to give the monk's unarmed attacks an armed feel. A roundabout way of doing it, I understand, but still, that's what they were attempting to accomplish, and I think they did. I personally don't like the Monk as a class, I think it builds strange, and I think the rule set up for the Monk's unarmed attacks is strange, but given the circumstance, I probably would have done the same.

I checked my copy, the only place where there is something like a -4 penalty for attacking unarmed is if a character without improved unarmed attack wants to deal lethal damage instead of nonlethal damage. If you want to deal nonlethal damage (as normal) there is no such penalty. A fighter can punch just fine, without any penalty (because he's proficient with unarmed strike), of course he will provoke attacks of oportunity and he will deal nonlethal damage. The PBH is consistent with the links.

Exactly. Being a Beguiler in a city Campaign is so much better in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, your standard game is fun to, but yeh, your right.

Which personally is why I like what Paizo did with them in Pathfinder. Gnomes are curious and capricious yes, but as a matter of survival rather than culture, needing near constant mental stimulation to avoid "The Bleaching" a slow loss of their fae nature, causing them to slowly lose their color and die a withering death.

"Anybody but a druid, monk, or wizard is proficient with all simple weapons." Straight from the PHB. Unarmed strike is listed as a simple weapon, too. It's stated that he doesn't provokes attacks of opportunity for attacking unarmed, and he can choose whether he deals lethat or nonlethal damage. He's still not proficient, and gets a -4 to the attack roll though. The improved unarmed attack feat doesn't gives you proficiency (most classes are proficient with unarmed attacks to begin with).

Ah, I see. But Improved Unarmed Attack feat does eliminate the -4 penalty incurred when striking unarmed (page 139). They may not be outwardly proficient with unarmed attacks, but for all intents and purposes they are.

Depends on your definition of constricting. If you want to be a wizard and use reality-altering powers that are clearly and blatantly overpowered, yes, it's more constricting. But mechanically there's nothing more or less constricting about it. Everything that was in previous editions is there, if not in a new form then truncated into another skill (listen/spot/search -> perception, use rope became part of thievery, etc) Minions are fine. There's nothing broken about them.
