DemocracyNow.org - Noam Chomsky says the Occupy movement has helped rebuild class solidarity and communities of mutual support on a level unseen since the time of the Great Depression. "The Occupy movement spontaneously created something that doesn't really exist in the country: Communities of mutual support, cooperation, open spaces for discussion ... people doing things and helping each other," Chomsky says. "That's very much missing. There [has been] massive propaganda going on for a century, that you really shouldn't care about anyone else, just yourself ... To rebuild [class solidarity] -- even in small pieces of society -- can become very important, can change the conception of how society ought to function." Chomsky also gives his assessment of President Obama, whom he says has attacked civil liberties in a way that "goes beyond George W. Bush."

Yes it took a wide and varied movement to outline the enormity of the problems facing the American people at this stage in our nation's development.Occupy was a stepping stone, launch point, wake up call, networking opportunity and it finds it's success in that. And will persist under many names.

Well, for one thing, it's useful to distinguish between centralized representatives and unrepresented groups. OWS has no recognized leader, virtually no membership platform, no headquarters, no election committees, or a legal framework of an institution they operate within. These are common traits of a centralized group. Hardly, the anti-NATO protesters showed up every year prior to founding of Occupy. To my information, the protests weren't there in the name of Occupy.

This guy is brilliant. If I was to ask Santa for anything, it would be that Chomsky got stuck in a plane in a seat next to mine and that we were going far :D

Occupy has pretty much dissolved now, though smaller offshoots still exist. The reason it dissolved was simply that birds that were not of a feather were flocking together, and this was not sustainable. But it was a beautiful moment. Occupy also suffered from a great deal of repression of government. repression. The FBI spied on them and entrapped nieve outliers. But the message of wealth disparity was spread. And real activists will persist under many names.

If the Occupy Movement had wanted to take on a worthwhile cause they should have occupied Israel and demand equal recognition in the law for the Palestinian people who were there long before 1948. Two state solution is not the answer.

OCCUPY is not a farfetched idea or a war for fighting. its a leaderless movement with a wide variety for diversity. its a VERY peacefull movement. there is a need for change, and those protesting are putting their life on the line just as a soldier does, to make a better change for the rest of us. Dnt judge if you have nvr been in their place or been where they are now.
