Thanks for doing this video, I am one of those that didn't use my brain and didn't do a little research before buying Lipo batteries. I saw a good deal on a pair of Lipos not thinking of the size and found out they were too big for my Laegendary Legend truck, now I need to find out what RC they will work with.

The math is not complicated when trying to decide which battery to use. Look at the amp rating on the ESC and make sure that the battery discharge battery is higher than the ESC, which = AmpHr x C rating. change the comma to a period to get Ahr. So a 5,000mAh battery has 5Ahr of capacity. Examples for a 100A ESC; 5Ahr battery @ 20C = 100 Amps. Will run but you battery is toast very quickly at full power runs. You want your battery to have some “headroom”. Full power discharges will get the battery hot and shorten it’s life. Imagine running your (real) car at redline 100% of the time. Not good for longevity of your engine. 5Ahr battery @ 30C battery = 150Amps. Battery has plenty of headroom over ESC demands. Good to go! 3Ahr battery (3,000mAh) @ 50C = 150Amps. Same as above. It will work but your “tank” is smaller than the 5,000 battery so run time is shorter. However this 3,000 battery will likely be smaller and lighter than the 5,000 which may be important to fit in your car. Another spec to look at is CHARGE rate, not discharge rate. Many high C batteries can also be charged at a higher rate than the usual 1C. I usually buy 50-70C batteries that can be charged at 5C. That means if a typical 20C battery takes 1 hour to charge, the 5C battery can be charged in 20 min. For me this is worth not having to swap batteries.

Another bit of information is discharge rate is limited by the connector. A 100c battery with a deans connector won't actually discharge the batteries full potential. The connector has a great deal to do with what C rating a battery will be able to send to your ESC. If you are running a 160 amp ESC with a Dean's and a 100c battery, the connector will melt. The connector used is just as important as what C rating the battery is.
@Bagman57
@Bagman57 6 жыл бұрын
The mA or mAh rating is a gauge on how long the run time will be. The higher the mA the longer the RC will run. A 1800mA battery may give you say a 15 20 minute run time on your RC. A 3000mA battery may give you around a 40 minute run time and so on. Voltage will determine how fast the motor turns over which means a faster RC. Discharge rate gives your RC it's punch or how quick your RC will respond when you pull the trigger. I wouldn't however run a battery higher than what the ESC can handle.
@Rcstreetshop

the only bummer is that there are a lot of mislabeled batteries from overseas...that completely changes/messes reference point for some people, as they first try "so called" 50C batteries and then expect "true" 25C behave twice as bad...

How long can you storage charge a lipo battery for and if the lipos have been stored for several months can you just charge them up and use them as usual or take it steady for the first few runs? Thanks
@athenovae
@athenovae 6 жыл бұрын
Hey there! I have been running RC planes and quads for a while (meaning I have a lot of LiPos to look after) and also just took a 4 month break from it all. Storage charge is to put the voltage at a level that is either too high not too low so the LiPo isn’t damaged over prolonged storage (and presumably without frequent check ups). As long as the LiPo stays stays above 3.7V per cell, your LiPo is in optimal condition and can charged up and used again without any need for concern. I never let mine fall under 3.7per cell. however some people bring theirs down to 3.5V per cell without much care. It may not be too much damage to the LiPo if any at all, but I keep my cutoff higher to avoid going any lower than the lipo’s limit. Similarly when I store them. To check the voltage, get a voltage checker or use your charger (if it has the function). I recommend you doing it once a month (or more) to avoid accidentally over discharging your LiPos-after having storage charged them (~3.85V). :)
@athenovae
@athenovae 6 жыл бұрын
Short answer: as long as it’s in good voltage range, you’re fine.

Kenny Marshall There's storage level, your charger should have a setting for storage, balance(a must) fast charge discharge. If you don't treat them properly...a dead battery could be the least of your worries.

Quick question about C ratings, if an application requires 25C on a 4000 mAh battery, can you use a 20C rated battery that has a capacity of 5000 mAh? From the way you explained it C rating is related to battery capacity...
@Rcstreetshop
@Rcstreetshop 6 жыл бұрын
Usually manufacturers indicate max load/draw (Amperage ) for your electronics: so if you have two batteries one 25C with 4000mah and another 20C with 5000mah, then in the perfect world they should produce equal amount of Amperage load/draw.

I should have watched this before buying my first lipo batteries this weekend, but my assumption was right. I bought ones with the higher c rating, think though would pack more punch. Here, if I didn't get a good enough battery, it might have puffed up and/or ruined my speed controls. I might have bought too good of batteries tho...

Don't forget to check temperature on your ESC/motor after first runs with high C batteries, to make sure that you do not put too much stress on it.

RC Street Shop yea, I was doing that. Tho, I only got to run my 3s battery for just a couple of minutes anyways. My vxl setup seems to sputter a bit when I first get going. I've always used castle ESCs in the past, and they weren't like that. It's almost like it's cutting out from not enough juice, but they are brand new batteries with higher c ratings. I just bought this used stampede 4x4 used from eBay, I kinda wonder if he has too tight of gear mesh. I know that can make trucks struggle a bit more

I can post a video and see what you think. It's almost like it cuts out at the start. Once I get rolling, it flies like a bat out of hell. Its only the first couple of feet. Either way, thanks for the tips. The only person I have to get tips from is my cousin who moved and now lives 2 hours away... And ironically reminds me of Roger lol

To be honest with you it could be a faulty motor. Please take pinion gear off and try your throttle. see how it responds. Does it spin or it spins only after you give it a go with your hand?

The employee at Htown sold me the wrong battery for my Arrma Granite 4x4 3S BLX. Sold me a 3s 30c battery. I looked up on Arrmas website and it says 35C minimum

It is OK, 30 to 35 is a very minor difference.

I would add a video about chargers because they are not equal and can also extend or shorten the life of your batteries

Thanks for the idea, its actually both chargers and how the battery is maintained (load/application, deep discharge etc).

So I have a question. I have been using a 3660 3800kv motor with a 60a esc and a 3s 4000mah battery with a 20c raiting. I've been very happy with the speed and the performance I get out of this setup. I just recently upgraded my esc to an 80a and I noticed a major decrease in speed. Does this have to do with my battery's spec's or is it just a faulty esc?
@Rcstreetshop
@Rcstreetshop 6 жыл бұрын
ESC - controls how much voltage goes into you motor (and how fast it spins). If ESC calibrated correctly, it can't limit your battery performance (which actually provides that voltage). If battery exceeds ESC performance, then you'll simply burn ESC, if it matches or less, then nothing happens.

You should check with your ESC specs, if it lets you use 11.1V batteries.

Yes, you can. DO not forget to change ESC to "Lipo mode", to protect your battery from discharging all the way down.

Appreciate your feedback! The goal with Xmaxx is not to overdo it :) we'd rather recommend safe battery , other then high performance pack... any 3S 11.1V battery with "true" 25 and between 6000-8000Mah should be pretty solid. Have fun and ride safe!

RC Street Shop thanks but one more question this xmaxx is an 8s running on the batterys that u recomend is what im using it only runs for about 10 minutes at full power then slowes down to 50% so im willing to invest in a good set of 4s batts just curious thro your experiance if u know of a pair i should get thanks again

We are very conservative when it comes to batteries and electronics. It is very easy to overpower and damage/burn something, which is going to be expensive with Xmaxx. As a rule of thumb, try not to exceed 30C and 10.000 mah to stay on the safe side of things and definitely change your gearing, if you go with 4S.

I have a arrma nero. In the Box it recommends to get a Onyx LiPo battery 11.1 volt 5400 mAh, 50c. So I have 2 questions. The first question is is it possible for me to put a Traxxas battery inside of the armor with a connection and if so which battery would you recommend? If the Traxxas battery is not possible, which battery would you suggest to get maximum performance out of the nero?
@Rcstreetshop
@Rcstreetshop 5 жыл бұрын
We always recommend to follow manufacturers specs, which in your case any 3S 50S battery . It is possible to use ANY battery with similar specs (with Traxxas you'll need to solder new connector).
