CHOOSE WISELY! Camping at Gros Ventre Campground in the Grand Tetons

NOT to complain buuut.. Our camping site at Gros Ventre Campground might have been our least favorite so far while RV traveling the USA. The Grand Teton National Park area IS beautiful and we really enjoyed it just try and choose a campsite in the inner loops when choosing or perhaps try Colter Bay Campground. At least we saw a BULL MOOSE! And were also able to check out the awesome town of Jackson Hole from Gros Ventre.
When we are RV camping so much a little privacy definitely goes a long way which we kind of missed in this site with neighbours on both sides and 3 different sites directly behind us. Makes RV vlogging a little trickier for us when it's busy too haha. Luckily Alysha still managed to make some delicious RV meals on the Blackstone. We also will be sharing the Colter Bay RV Park campground soon here so you can compare them and decide which you feel like.

We just got home from a NASCAR weekend & camping. We also did not realize that the generators would be going all day & for most, all night. I felt like I was on noise overload from them. One really appreciates the quiet of most parks after this type of experience.

We loved staying at that campground for its close proximity to moose watching, ( we saw three), and we were lucky with not too much generator use around us. I agree the Blackstone has to be level but buy yourself some egg rounds on Amazon, they are great. I spray them with Pam first and they make perfect round eggs 😊

One of our vacations in the Northeast was traveling through Vermont New Hampshire and New York very far north to Canadian border looking for moose everywhere in the fall. It was breathtakingly beautiful but we never did see a moose even after driving through every wooded road we found. We did however see many many beautiful waterfalls

Yay! You got to see a bull moose. They are beautiful, huge and weird all together. You should be able to see some around Colter Bay too if you take the short hikes out to Swan Lake area. I hope you will be happy at the Colter Bay RV park. It's pretty packed. Colter Bay and Gro Ventre are both huge campgrounds and you have it right, where you choose your site makes all the difference! I have always loved Colter Bay.

Gros ventre is my favorite campground in the park because of moose. Colterbay would be second because of the Tetons mountains at Jackson Lake.

Love seeing the wildlife. With the generator thing, we experienced that on our Oregon Coast trip as well. That noise was so annoying. We paid a ton of money for our sites and didn’t want to spend much time at any of them. Morning coffee and happy hours were torture. Beautiful area though!!

I'm sure there are also plenty of great campsites, but just like every campground theres some gems and some less ideal ones for sure haha 🍁

Thanks Cheri! Still a beautiful area, was just more our campsite in general I think. Every campground has their higher quality and not so much sites and this just happens to be the one we had for a last minute booking. The electric loop sounds like a really nice spot out there for next time though if we go again and can book farther in advance! 🍁

At least everyone obeyed the the rules while you were there. We were there from May 22-27. Not hot so only a few generators running. ( it actually snowed on us a couple of days ) had a church group across from us and they were terrible on noise. Sang hymns at the top of their lungs till 11PM and were running their generator till Midnight. That was just the first night. Second night since they were all sleeping outdoors, big rain storm drove them to pack up and leave. While we there, we rode our bikes around the campground and made a list of all the spots that our 34” 5th wheel would fit and rated them 1-5 for the next trip. Already have reservations for the end of September. Also the name of the town is Jackson. Jackson hole is the name of the valley. Beautiful area a must for everyone’s bucket list. Hope you got some huckleberry treats while you were there.

Maybe that’s why your fellow campers booked that particular area so they can run their generators. Sorry it was a pain for y’all, however those are rules that you need to check before booking.

It is unfortunate when a campground is noisy. We stayed a couple nights at Dosewallips State Park in Washington back in May after hearing it was a nice campground. Didn’t realize the site we had booked was right next to the highway and there was a lot of traffic. We thought it was pretty weird to be at a campground that was noisier than our own backyard! There were some nice hiking trails though, so it was worthwhile. I would definitely choose a site on the other side of the campground next time though!

NAtional Forest "campgrounds" are typically not free. Dispersed camp spots are free, but spots that fit your rig are few and far between. The Tetons are so popular it is hard to escape the hoards no matter the remoteness.

Thank you for your honest review. It would be so appreciated to know the loop and site number so your viewers can make better choices maybe even the month. Thank you BTW we take our generator with us but we have the super quiet Honda 48db and use it only as needed. We Barely hear it running

Might want to look into getting some solar so you guys can boondock in and around our national parks. There's supposed to be alot of free camping in that area.

With that rig, there are so many spots you can camp in the Grand Teton/Yellowstone area that don't require a "campground" ... No vanlifers either... I promise if you do some work on google, you'll find those spots with zero people, and 100% legal to camp there

Good campsites can sure be ruined by noisy neighbors. You never know when you might camp next to Mr or Mrs. Noisy. We had a beautiful campsite in Oregon overlooking the Pacific Ocean, only to have neighbors with super loud music playing all day. Of all things it was soundtrack to Mary Poppins! Everyone loves a "spoonful of sugar," but after the 10th replay it gets really old. It was so loud, I could hear it plainly inside the RV with all doors and windows closed...

Haha that's a first! Yeah music is one of those things too right where it can really impact everyones stay if it's not at an appropriate volume. I always imagine it like what if everyone were to do this? when thinking about those types of rules. Would make for a noisey experience. Unfortunate the place you stayed at didn't talk to them for you ever. You never know what variables you can come across camping and on the road hey, for better or worse 😂🍁

Gros Ventre was our favorite. We had a site in the electric loop (site 197). So much so that we extended our stay by a week. I'm sorry your experience was not good. They really should implement generator rules or just run electric for all loops. It is a shame because the campground is so convenient and beautiful.

That sounds like a nice stay! Yeah like we had touched on I also think our last minute booking site was just unideal right on the main road. The electric loop would've been nice and it would be cool to see them all have it someday and then just charge a little more. A set generator hour would be nice too just so everyone all gets it done together to help prevent staggering usage throughout the day 🍁

I’m at Gros Ventre campground now. I’m in the electric loop with no generators allowed! I picked this campground with hopes to see some wildlife, especially Moose, but much to my dismay when I stopped in at the Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center they told me that the moose had already moved further north because the Gros Ventre area is too warm for them now (August 1st). That visitor center which is in Jackson right on the road into the NP is very nice with a viewing platform that looks out over the refuge. They had some free wildlife guides with wonderful pictures to help identify wildlife. This campground is not my favorite, although this loop (d) sounds better than yours. The good; there are some trees and sites are not too close side by side, there are flush toilets and running water in the bathrooms and a place to wash dishes, there’s a free dump station and potable water at the entrance. The bad; many of the sites are very small, my 21ft Campervan just barely fit in my site, although there are sites that fit larger rigs. Although on the map it looks like this campground was close to the river, but it’s not. There are no paths leading to the river so it is not easily accessible.

This park has been devastated by budget cuts and increased popularity. I’ve been staying at Grand Teton for 50 years. Things have change dramatically over this time for camping in the park. Twenty years ago they redid Gros Ventre campground and I got myself placed on the committee overseeing the project. I was a touring cyclist and as the campground was not very good especially for cyclists I spent a lot of time developing a plan and suggesting changes to the campground to enhance it with changes to make it better for cyclists. The leader of the project was polite but did not incorporate a single suggestion. They had their plan and the panel I was on was just for show in reality. The ways of Government. What a world, what a world.

Good video 😀 if you stay at less expensive rv Park's you get what you get most people from 2020 covid time don't care they think there entitled to do what they want there new rv's so if you go to a better rv Park you won't have a problem except they are more expensive but have a good time 😃

Open frame generators are not allowed in any national park campground. Complain to the camp host and they will have the camper shut it down.

The town is actually just called Jackson, while it's located within the Jackson Hole valley.

Running your gen all day isn't much like camping. Too bad some have so little consideration. We have encountered this in rv parks where they didn't want to pay the higher rate for electricity and just run the gen all night!

Ouch all night would hurt. I definitely get the need for them, just like it when there is set hours you can expect the noise and everyone can get on board with it and all charge at once. Then you can also have the designated non generator times. Guess to each there own! 🙂🍁

For those of you griping about lack of generator rules, those ARE the generator rules, which are well posted…no generator use from 10pm-8am. Also, for those of you non-locals complaining, it gets ridiculously hot in the non-shaded areas. We don’t own a generator, so we don’t have a dog in the fight, but we live in WY and the Gros Ventre rules are quite clear and posted throughout. If you don’t bother to read, then you don’t get to have a fit. Gros Ventre is our favorite campground. Moose roam throughout. It’s close to Jackson and Teton. The river is right there behind the campground. Best not to blame others for your problems. Those generator running people were following the rules of the campground. Having written that, we book in the generator-free section. Next time, take responsibility and read the rules of the campground instead of projecting onto other people.

@@LukeandAlysha Keith has a valid point. When we planned our trip through that area we researched the rules and especially the generator rules. It’s the responsibility of the campers to know all rules. I think what he was frustrated with that y’all complained about the campsite and your neighbors. The campsite posted the rules and your neighbors were doing nothing wrong. Love watching your videos and adventures, just shouldn’t complain about people following the posted rules.

Many, many RV'ers do not follow the rules/don't care about their neighbors and there are a lack of hosts available/that want to work lately. Open frame/construction grade generators should be banned from campgrounds as they are SO much louder and annoying.

Just found your channel. Yes, it would be irritating hearing all those generators and all the traffic. We visit those areas for some relaxation and to appreciate nature so those noises are the last things you want to hear all day long. Sorry that happened to you.

Hey there! We definitely need to use our generator at times too, it was more just interesting this is the only spot we've ever stayed that didn't have set hours for everyone to charge up, and then set hours to enjoy the peace and quiet. 🍁

They need to ban construction grade generators..the folks who use em are clueless weekend warriors, i don't understand how these folks don't have common courtesy.

It is kind of interesting hey how any generator is good to go regardless of if it's a smaller one designed to be quiet or a big bulky work generator. It would be tough for employees to enforce running around with decibel meters but it would be nice if at least everyone was on the same page!

Yeah for sure. We need to use ours when we have bigger stints without electric hook ups, but it is nice when a campground has designated hours at least so everyone gets it over with and then there is still quiet hours. Compared to just run it whenever and as long as you want. First time we've come across no set hours! 🍁
