In this video I will be picking my very first guitar from Chapman Guitars.
Chapman Guitars have been around a while, and chances are, if you watch guitar related content on KZfaq, you're probably familiar with the brand @chapmanguitars and it's owner @RobChappers
Over the years I've played many Chapman guitars that friends own and I've always been fond of what they do, but I've never actually owned one... until now!
In this video I check out 4 guitars from their Standard line and pick my favourite to be my first Chapman guitar!
The guitars you'll see in the video are the Chapman ML1X, ML2, ML3 Traditional and ML3 Modern.
The tone you hear are coming from the Blackstar Studio 10 6L6 which is running into the Two Notes Torpedo Captor X. The overdrive in the video is from the Wampler Gearbox.

I've met Rob a few times and he's a really nice guy. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about him, all my interactions with him have been nothing but positive and he's a very easy guy to talk to and hang out with. You should definitely look into owning one! The new Standard line (The ones from this video) are fairly affordable in the grand scheme of things. They're great instruments for not a huge amount of money.

Chapman guitars had a bumpy ride but they solved all well. Specially the PRO guitars are really good, i own a ML1 pro modern in black sun, a ML2 pro in azure blue and a ML3 pro trad semi-hollow in burnt orange sparkle, all Korea produced and great quality and value.
@LeighFugeGuitar

Yeah, I don’t think they had any more of a bumpy ride than any other brand would, but with Rob being in the public eye I think people scrutinised them a little more because everything they did was public. If Rob wasn’t a KZfaqr I honestly think people wouldn’t have said have the stuff they’ve said. But as you said, they took the feedback and made it better. The Pro stuff is so good for the money. Even the top of the range Pro stuff comes in just over a grand in the UK which is insane value. The ones in this video are all from the Standard line and are all Indonesian made but they feel like they are way more expensive than they are!

It's long overdue!! They make some great stuff, I've always liked everything I played from them but for some reason I just never ended up getting my hands on one until now!! Wow... have you really subbed to the channel since then?! That would've probably been around March 2020 because that's when I started posting properly on here! Crazy!! I feel like that time has flown by!!

ML3 traditional just catching the eye. The finish is great, especially if I can see the structure of the word. Additional things are P90, I don't have any experience with this pickup so, that guitar perhaps would be... in future. Thank you for soo many details about those guitars.
@LeighFugeGuitar

I also loved the ML3 Traditional. P90s are great pickups. A P90 is a type of single coil pickups, but it has a much fatter sound. Imagine a sound that is halfway between a single coil and a humbucker!

Are these guitars typical of what leaves the factory, or did they benefit from any set-up prior to you receiving or playing them? Thanks.

Hey, great question. As they are demo models they've been used by a few people over the months prior to this video so I assume at some stage someone somewhere has tinkered with something as happens with review models... BUT... if you buy one from Andertons in the UK they are all setup prior to shipping anyway. By the time a Chapman lands in a customers hands, it will have received a quick once over from the store that stocks it I believe. To my understanding, at least in the case of Andertons, every guitar (Chapman and more...) are setup before shipping. Hope that helps!

@@LeighFugeGuitar My ML2 gold top did indeed come with an Andertons check sheet. The first check on the list is action. I just can't work out if they mean it passed with fingers, or with a bow! I suspect your review guitars were given a full pro set-up before being sent on their merry way. Nothing wrong with that, it's just my observation.

To me there was a surprising difference between the ML2 and ML3 even with the same humbuckers. The ML3 seems like it has way more grit
@LeighFugeGuitar
@LeighFugeGuitar Жыл бұрын
They're actually different pickups. The ML1 and ML3 Modern both have the Sonorous Zero Pickups (Bridge 12.5k, Neck 10.5k), but the ML2 has a set of Sentorian Zero pickups (Bridge 14.5k Neck 9.5k) Interestingly, the ML2 bridge pickup is not as hot as the ML3, but to my ears the ML3 sounded hotter the ML2 sounded, and felt a bit more open, less compressed and a bit more old school. On paper, the ML2 should have more grit, but the Sentorian is a brighter, more open sounding pickup than the Sonorous. The Sonourus in the ML3 is a gain monster!!

I think Chapman has a hard time. The competition in the cheaper guitarrange is fierce. Think Sire., but a FGN telecaster smokes a lot of guitars in the 700 euro pricerange. I tried a few Chapmans in the past. I found the tele models a tad thin sounding. Maybe they have improved.

Understood and appreciated but I am being honest, I do genuinely like the guitars. After the video I actually ended up buying the ML3 to go alongside the ML1, both of which have been on tour with me a lot in the last 2 years. I’m a fan of the brand and I enjoy the instruments they make, not sure how else to present that in a video when it is my opinion.

Please excuse me if I’m speaking out of turn, having just stumbled across this video, your asking for subscribers and then tell us that you’re being paid and being given a guitar from Chapman. So clearly you want us to sub so you can be sent a free guitar? What’s in it for the viewer?? Surely if someone wants reviews of guitars , a review from someone who has paid for their guitar is more trust worthy than an (employee). I’ll give you credit for the full disclosure however a better and more genuine title for this video would have been “ biased advertisement for Chapman guitars”.
@LeighFugeGuitar
@LeighFugeGuitar 6 ай бұрын
Ok, so there’s a few things to unpack here… Chapman paid for my time, not my opinion. Brands don’t get to see videos before I publish them, nor do they get to tell me what to say. I’m not a Chapman employee and it’s not a biased review. In fact I even open talk about one of the guitars in the video that wasn’t to my taste. Chapman didn’t know which guitar I was going to keep… but also, after this video I also BOUGHT the ML3 in the video from them too. As in what’s in it for the viewer, that’s down to whatever value they feel they get from my content. On my channel I create a lot of educational content and a lot of my viewers come to watch videos to learn things. Some of my subscribers come for the educational content, some for the gear content, some for both. I am also very transparent with my subscribers and many of them trust me and my opinions. Outside of KZfaq I’m a touring guitarist and if I like a product I take it out on the road with me to show I trust it. If I get paid or get a product I give full disclosure on that, if I don’t like something I will mention it. The only thing I will not do is create a video trashing a product. If a brand sends me something I don’t like i will send it back and decline the video. I do this for me, because it’s what I want to do. I have no interest in creating negative content or content trashing brands. I only make the videos I want to make and I make them how I want to make them. Sorry you feel this is potentially a biased video.

@@LeighFugeGuitar I stand corrected. Maybe my view has been coloured by less than genuine content creators. I apologise for my preconceived ideas and lesson learned.
@LeighFugeGuitar
@LeighFugeGuitar 6 ай бұрын
I get it, I understand, I’ve seen those kind of videos myself. I’ve seen people who I know are saying something is good because they are being paid or because they benefit in someway. I totally understand and we all know there are some people out there that do it, but there are also a lot of us that don’t. I’m just someone who loves guitar and enjoys talking about it with people. That’s why I don’t make negative videos, I don’t want my enjoyment or experience of a guitar to be negative. The fact this is my job is a bonus, but first and foremost I’m someone that just loves guitar. As I said, I am super transparent with anyone who subscribes to me or follows me on socials and I’m more than happy to answer any questions about things, I’m very open with the people that trust me and my content. I always disclose payments/product placements but I’d like to think I back up my opinions by using things more than once. If you see a product crop up time and time again, or on my live rig, it’s a product I trust 😃 But believe me, I fully understand where you’re coming from, this is why I am very transparent with people, because I want people to see my opinion isn’t the thing that is paid for, it’s my time that’s paid for 😃
