Needs to be starting, England should always be playing on the front foot no matter the opponent. That’s why he’s in the XI. To create and add offense. His attacking ability, crossing, dead ball taking is so important for England especially from the fullback position

@@deco7651 I see where you’re coming from but the midfield talent/balance ratio (if that makes sense) makes it so hard to put Jude, Maddison and Rice together. I think that someone that can free up both Rice and Jude/Maddison at times would be the perfect fit. That man is Sean Longstaff, whether you like it or not

Yep. Best right back by far in prem so far this year. Has been consistent for years, especially for England. And also has been the only player than can play LB when Shaw and Chilwell are injured. Which is more often than not.

@@KhanCarnivore I think the issue for Trippier is he doesn't quite compete with Walker, James or TAA for RB and he doesn't quite compete with Shaw and Chilwell for LB. He is a good squad player and will likely get picked if there are injuries since he can play either side.

@joee8278 I totally disagree. He is the only one of those players who can play both sides, and he's the 2nd best option behind walker currently. I'm a Liverpool supporter, so no bias included. If we need a more creative player at right back I'd put Trips in over Trent.

@@KhanCarnivore Yeah that's fair. Trent is too much of a risk for Southgate which is a shame but understandable. In my opinion Reece James fit and in form gets in over both Walker and Trippier though. Don't mean to disrespect Tripps though he has been a great servant to England, we are just so stacked in that position.

I'm just here to say that I really hope Ward-Prowse gets a call. He is NOT overrated, he is underrated. He should have been picked at least in one of the last three international tournaments. They need to stop picking players or not pick players because they don't have "experience" If guys like Konsa, Tomori have on form seasons they need to be looked at.

The disregard for his quality is pretty embarrassing considering the lack of options in that position. Not saying he should definitely start but to never even get a look in, despite being one of the best CBs in the league so far this season is criminal but we know if he was on the bench at City then he'd be picked 😅

There is an easy way to decide as well he has been a good solid consistent CB in prem football for 4 seasons other than maybe Dunk or Stones non of the other CB’s have a solid record like that and yet Colwill after a few good games and playing for a terrible Chelsea team gets in or Maguire who doesn’t even play for his club.

@@nithinissac8090 I agree White is one of our better CBs but the reality is he has 60 total top flight games there and only 5 in the last two years. Comparison to stones is daft who had several years at CB winning leagues and countless England caps there.

I would definitely take a winger that plays better with the likes of Kane and Bellingham around him, as well as he is the only English left winger who can bring out a moment of individual brilliance.

Assuming all fit and in decent form and not taking Southgate's opinion into account: Pickford | Walker, Stones, Guehi, Shaw | Bellingham ( box to box), Rice (staying deep) | Saka, Foden, Rashford (back in form) | Kane. With back ups Ramsdale/ Pope | James, White, Colwill, Chilwell | Philips (if getting game time), Mount (back in form) | Sterling, Maddison, Grealish | Watkins (based on current form as there are many on equal level). Close to bring in: Johnstone, Trippier, Dunk, Trent, Ward Prowse, Longstaff, Gallagher, Tomori. The other options as second striker being: Toney, Tammy, Wilson, DCL, Solanke.

I personally think England has got one of the most cutthroat options for themselves for the tournament coming up, I think it is very difficult to choose and Southgate is up for one for the most difficult team selections because of the importance of this tournament to the country but for me personally this would be my squad GKs 1) Pickford (Starts) 2) Ramsdale 3) Pope Defence 1) Luke Shaw (Starts) 2) Ben Chilwell (lets hope he is fit, potential starter, replacement can be Colwill) 3) Trippier (Starts depends on formation and opponent) 4) Walker (Mostly starts due to versitality) 5) James (Good back up for both ends of the pitch) 6) Trent (Mostly should be used as inverted RB and in the midfield, potential started in midfield, definitely a game changer) 7) John Stones (Absolute starter) 8) Harry Maguire (I think will start because of reliability of Southgate and previous performances for England) 9) Dunk 10) Guehi or Tomori or Konsa (One of them, I would prefer tomori) Midfield 1) Declan rice (100% STARTER) 2) Bellingham (100% STARTER) 3) Madison (100%) 4) Foden (100%) 5) Henderson (100% due to experience) 6) Gallagher or Mount or JWP (I hope either one of JWP or Gallagher, I don't think Mount would necessarily help or start because of Madison or Foden, depends on form) Forwards 1) Harry Kane (100%) 2) Saka (100%) 3) Grealish 4) Rashford 5) Watkins or Wilson or maybe even consider the likes of Jarrod Bowen or Nketiah or someone. I know this is a 24 man squad but there are absolutely too many options with too much competition for each position. I think there should be a balance between form, experience and past performances and thus the likes of Maguire go in my team but you are open to discuss and disagree.

Only need 2 RB's unfortunately and James is too injury prone and TAA is too much of a liability v top rate wingers, no he cannot play CM in a major tournament so they get dropped. Gallagher and Tomori from the listed options and then Watkins and the extra man being Longstaff/Bowen on current form depending on where you think you are light. I'd probably take Longstaff as there are 5 potential wingers there already and not major CM cover.

Of course France are favorites because of their quality but especially because of their tournament experience. If you compare France and England's starting 11s though, I think you'd find that France's selection isn't superior to England's. I'd take Maignan, T. Hernandez (debatable), Upamecano, Tchouameni and Mbappe over Pickford, Shaw, Maguire (or whoever replaces him), Phillips (or whoever replaces him) and Foden/Rashford/Grealish. However, I'd take Stones over Konate, any English RB over Kounde, Rice over Rabiot, Bellingham over Griezmann, Kane over Giroud and Saka over Dembele...

Clueless. Varane is overrated, but also Stones. Stones shouldnt be selected like K.Phillips. Stones makes several mistakes per season like Dier and always was 5th choice CB at City.

leaving maguire out even just as back-up is absolutely criminal. shows a lack of ball knowledge and shows they don't actually watch him play. yes he gets loads of bad press, yes he's got mistakes in him but he more than makes up for it with defending set pieces, attacking set pieces. his ball distribution is outstanding for a CB. he defends on the front food which is why mistakes often happen but someone has to do it but that's why his partnership with stones works so well because stones is great cover. right now he gets in over guehi for england

XI Ramsdale Shaw Stones Tomori James Rice Mainoo Bellingham Rashford Kane Saka AWB/Walker can come in when we need defensive cover, against Mbappe or other stars. I anticipate Mainoo to break out this season for Manchester United. And if he plays enough games and performs well enough, he's the only cm that can play alongside Rice. Obviously, I'd love Maddison, Rice, Bellingham midfield too. Rashford on form starts. Bowen is unlucky to not make the squad. I just don't rate him that highly. I think Palmer can develop in a year to become better. Palmer can also play the 10. He's basically Foden, where the manager has played him out of position and into the wings.

People don’t understand that a midfield of Maddison - Rice - Bellingham would first off, get completely cut through by most capable teams and secondly, limit either Jude or Maddison by making them play deeper which is stupid because they are both unbelievable 10s. People don’t want to hear it but it has to be either Henderson or Phillips alongside Rice with Bellingham higher up, only midfield with enough balance to actually win crucial games.

Buvey saying that Maguire has been England’s best player over the last three tournaments is a perfect example to showcase his lack of ball knowledge. Maguire literally cost us the game against France for failing to mark Giroud properly. If anybody other than Southgate was managing this England side Maguire would be 9th/10th choice centre half without a doubt, and rightly so.

The biggest issues with England is that the starting XI doesn’t pick its self. Go to any top countries and their XI is some of the best players in their positions and most countries have at least 6 world class players. England have 4 at best right now but they have a lot of players who are very close. There is too much debate who starts and who doesn’t. I believe that Southgate won’t win anything with arguably the best England squad we have ever seen.

If you watch England goalkeeper training you can see why Pickford is the main man. He is head and shoulders above the others in terms of shot-stopping, and there's not much in it with the ball at his feet.

The disrespect towards Newcastle players is mad! Trippier is the best attacking and best defensive defender England has. Sean Longstaff has been outstanding and is a huge miss for Newcastle when out, should be miles ahead of Henderson, Philips, Gallagher, Mount. Callum Wilson outscored Watkins last season in less games and should be second to Kane and Dan Burn is the most unconventional LB in the league but starts every game for the best defence in the league
