I compare the strengths and weaknesses of three blue Seamaster divers, and rank them in order of greatness bearing the retail price in mind. Do you agree with my assessment?

I think it is so cool that Omega has 3 seamaster models that are seemingly inspired by all 3 generations of diving Seamaster. What a way to stay in touch with your roots.

300 could be the only luxury watch for me. Timeless design of the sandwich dial with domed sapphire which contributes to that lovely distortion of numerals and hour markers under certain angles combined with sophisticated modern movement and absolutely spectacular lume architecture with two distinct colours and the vintage font of lumed numerals make it my favourite.

Thank you, Bruce, for your reasoned analysis, as always. I’ve had my 43mm Planet Ocean with black dial for 3 years. I fall in love with it every time I put it on my 7 1/8” wrist. The high-end finish is simply exquisite. The movement is unsurpassed. It ranks at the top of my large dive watch collection. Love your channel!

What’s nice about Bruce’s comparison is that there is no wrong answer, in picking among these three. The “right” answer is going to be specific to each person. After thinking about an Omega for years, I got my Seamaster (the white dial, orange bezel PO) a few months ago. Love it, and have barely taken it off. I recognize that lots of people find the PO too big or too tall for comfort. But I find it very comfortable to wear, despite not being large-wristed. And I absolutely wouldn’t change the PO to make it any thinner than it currently is. But that’s because this is the right watch for me. And for equally personal reasons, the 300 or 300 pro will be the right watch for many others. Rock on, Omega!
@Tyler-sl6vg
@Tyler-sl6vg Жыл бұрын
Ya the 8900 PO definitely does not feel too thick. IMO the portions are perfect. It wears closer to 14mm than 16mm due to the domed crystal and the angle of the bezel. My Seiko MM300 is a 1mm thinner but feels a lot thicker (also fine, though).

The Seamaster 300 was the hands down winner for me, love the classic style and wearability. Also think it carries the best movement of the bunch, love the no date dual barrel movement. As far as AR goes it has it on the inner surface but not the outer surface. Tudor did the very same thing with their 2022 Ranger release. In both cases it’s done to make the domed sapphire crystals appear closer to the vintage domed acrylic crystals of the original models while also providing all the advantages of sapphire. I own both watches for the very same reasons, they bring modern movements and materials to fabulous classic designs. Maybe it’s just because I’m older than most of the reviewers of these watches but the retro esthetic of these releases really speaks to me. They’re all great watches, but for me this reviewer definitely didn’t understand what this watch was all about.

It's great to hear your thoughts on these three Seamaster watches Bruce. I like the Heritage model but preferred the previous version personally. Some years ago at the AD I compared the 300M and the Planet Ocean and after what seemed like an age I went for the 300M white dial, I just loved the symmetry of the dial and it was just more comfortable and balanced on my wrist. I have to agree with the bezel action though, not that the 300M is bad it's just not as a refined feeling as some other options but works just fine. Thanks for sharing.

PO is desperate for a refresh and diet, but there is a white dial/orange bezel reference that is a joy to behold. Excellent video, one of the few if not the only one comparing these 3 Omega dive watches. Aqua Terra is indeed a very good watch as well, but I suppose the idea was to compare 'Omega divers with a bezel'. I have a more technical question, curious to learn if you/anyone have/has the answer... Why does movement 8900 fit in the Aqua Terra (41 mm case) but not in the Diver 300 (42 mm case)? Other way around, why is the case of the Diver 300 ‘so big’, when the same 8800 movement fits in the Planet Ocean 39,5 mm ? Thanks, whatever happens with this question 😉

I like all 3. I do greatly respect Omega. The 89** and 88** (my preference being the former), are just great. But when adding an Omega to my collection. I went with another Seamaster, the Aqua Terra. White/Silver dial on the deployant grey rubber strap. It's a go any where do anything watch of high quality. Water resistant to 150M. Seriously how many of us need even anything like that? Had it for nearly 18 months. Obtained with a discount, and it runs at almost bang on time. -1 still during the day, +1 resting dial up over night. Nothing to complain about,other than the resale value isnt great. But hey it is still probably a better all round watch than the equivalent one by "The Crown"..... :-)

The 300 in black will be my next watch. It is the best daily driver of the three for a number of reasons. The 300 pro looks cartoonish to me, like a watch a 10-year-old would draw. I am not a fan of the bracelet either, and the helium escape valve is a deal breaker. The planet ocean has better styling than the pro IMO, more subdued, but it's too much watch for a daily, and it has the wart. The 300 is the perfect size, nice classic styling, has AR coating on the inside, which is enough, as the outer coating will wear off over time. Also at 2:17 you showed the first modern iteration of the 300, not the actual vintage watch from 1957.

I bought the SMP300 last year on the bracelet and liked it but never really bonded with the watch overall. I just bought the steel mesh Omega bracelet and it has totally transformed the watch to now be one of my most favourite watches and easily the most comfortable watch to wear, so I guess the bracelet makes a big difference. If you have a SMP300 look at getting the mesh milanese bracelet if you can because it will change the wearing experience for the better.

I have the PO 600m 43.5mm with black ceramic dial and bezel, I love it and wear it everyday. The only thing that I think could be better is the bracelet/strap pins, as a professional deep sea divers watch I think that it should have heavy duty screw in pins that go in through holes on the outside of the lugs instead of regular spring pins, I've had spring pins pull out/break on watches in the past after catching the strap on something so I know from experience it can happen, it would mean having slightly ugly holes on the outside of lugs but would give peace of mind, I don't even wear mine swimming at the beach because I worry that I could snag the bracelet/strap on something while messing around in the water and unknowingly have the watch fall off my wrist 😳

What were they thinking - looks like it belongs on a tacky microbrand imho) Do like the PO and was tempted, but just too chunky for me . The 300 pro doesn't appeal in the slightest, really dislike the indices and it's too flashy for my tastes..... Wish Omega would redo the 2254, I'm sure it'd sell better than any of them. Cheers 👍🏻

This is a Grail for me! Pretty much the best Omega (the 300) to date - at least in my opinion!

Heritage is the best, because the only one with no date. I’m waiting for 165.024 reissue, but I’ll settle for diver professional in no date or thinner planet ocean no date if we can get upgrades

The 300 is very legible. I find it to be the most legible of all 3. While I like the lumed bezel, in practical use, you can barely see the numbers unless you've just walked inside from the sun.

I like the 300 best for its vintage style looks and simplicity. I used to own the previous model. But ultimately, these are all just too big. I really tried to make it work but could not.

I like the 300/heritage and PO for their no-nonsensense functionality. The current SMP is too blingey for me and I don't like it's over-stylization that hurts functionality - scalloped bezel= hard to grip, skeletonized hands=less lume, unnecessary helium escape valve.

The 300 - probably just for the proportions of the bracelet, clasp and case. The legibility does suck though - and so does the fake lume which I despise. I only like the Aqua Terra but the lack of microadjustment and clasp length is a dealbreaker for me. So I'm staying away from Omega... for now!

The only reason i have a 39.5mm PO on my wrist is because the 300 didn't come in smaller size.

The Planet Ocean is too big and clunky for most people, most of the time. Omega does not even provide the watch thicknesses on their web site, probably becasue they're a bit embarrassed. And the dial, with the 3 oversize Arabic numbers and the exaggerated arrow hands looks almost cartoonish. The SMP Diver 300 is a great, all-around casual watch. The heritage Seamaster 300 is more dressy and arty. I don't particlularly like the one you show here, but the "bronze gold" version with the black dial on a leather strap is pretty striking.

The technical specs are on their website as big as Dallas. we get it - 😂you couldn't find a deal on the PO so you had to go with one of the other models. No reason to be simpish.

I would be happy with any omega to be honest. But dang. $6500 for a watch. Is hard to justify a purchase in this world now. So many fantastic, work horse watches and dress for $1500-$3500. But man I love omega. I would have to figure out some impossible task to reward myself with one. And is actually a good idea to start on lol

Definitely not inexpensive. If I were you I’d try some Omegas if you have the opportunity. Then try them again at another AD (if possible). You’ll eventually know which is the Omega for you. Let it be your only pricey watch and go to the $1K to $3K price range later.

@@eyeheartsushi2212 yes. Most def. That’s what I had in mind my friend. I was recently trying on and looking at some omegas. Man they are so nice just can’t decide on which one. Seamaster heritage or a 300. But still love the planets. Bad think I think my wrist size, sized me out of the planets, but I love them. The speedy 57. Beautiful. But. $10k. No sir. $6500. Yea. But that’s impossible

- I don’t like the ridiculous helium valve or the 1990’s looking bracelet on the Seamaster Prof. I don’t like the size and thickness of the Planet Ocean however I like the dial better of the 3. And I’m not a fan of vintage throw back high dome crystal on Seamaster 300 or the faux dial indices, although I love the size. So when I went to my local AD to see in person and buy one I chose none of the above.

imagine the SMP as a 200m planet ocean. Date at 6, Arabics at 9, 12 and 3, no HEV and a holzer style bracelet. The current SMP looks gaudy in this lineup.
