In this video we work on getting our 49 Plymouth chop top welded up. Starting with the quarter panels we weld together where we sectioned the back half of this car and move onto the challenging drip rail gutter delete. These prove to be a bigger challenge than expected to weld.

On that drip rail seam, clean a wire coat hanger and lay it in as fillier if needed

In my last 20 yrs of doing sheet metal work i haven't warped during welding because i did that just like you are ... i warped the steel grinding with the wrong disc for the lacknof better words ... i found using a stone disc works best and of course the smoother of your welds the less grinding you will do so when welding and leaving funnel cakes behind its a much greater chance of warpage... looking great man , this is going to be one sick looking ride when you are done no doubt ... ohhhh lil harper, dont get into doing this find another career itll be much better for your health lol 😊

Use ur compressor air blower gun to cool the welds and area around it helps with the warping can also use wet rag trick to👍

One suggestion. That might be lead burning in that joint. For sure there may be lead in the old paints on that car. Be mindful about your child being around any smoke or sanding residue from the car. I learned that doing a house demo years ago. Car is looking good!

Try overlapping your tacks (stack the tacks) and push the weld rather than pull it. It sometimes helps to burn out the contaminants a little more.

still awesome work...in my 2 cent opinion i think you should lower the rear window about 2" closer too the trunk so its not so high in the roof or make it a tad smaller take 2" off the top of it. still cool as hell

Now things are getting buttoned up on the top. Old metal doesn't always want to cooperate at first. Little Mrs Harper is going to be running the shop before you know it lol

You can use a clothes hanger to fill those big gaps just lay it flat weld through it
