That middle part is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in my life. It is divine perfection.

This IMO is one of the greatest Nocturnes ever composed. Sweet, delicate, and then takes you for a romantic ride that takes your breath away. I like to think of this piece as being the entrance to seeing a lost loved one in your life, right by your side, talking sweetly into your ears about the happiness they found and letting you know they're still here. Then they whisk you away and take you on a ride of emotions, a roller coaster of them, only to get off and return to that sweet and delicate conversation. 3:08 marks the beginning of an end. You find out your loved one must go back. 3:22 marks where you finally see your loved one back away and slowly fade, while your head is down, crying, letting go. But they're still there watching you.

I once heard a comment saying that Chopin’s music has the ability to express ‘beautiful despair,’ and that seems like a very accurate description.

What an incredible musician. For me, Rubinstein's interpretations place him over other great pianists. If you don't understand what the composer is saying in his composition, it doesn't matter how technically perfect your performance is. Music is a product of the heart as well as of the mind.

For me, the nocturnes encapsulate all that is good in society but not in a pompous or dramatic way, we're not perfect and there is darkness, but behind the darkness there is beauty.

I've listened to dozens upon dozens of recordings, seriously. And yet, I keep coming back to this one. The hunting transition from the opening to the middle section, so so much ethereal longing, so rhythmically profuse abd moving. A passage beyond objective descriptors, as it's just too mystical, spiritual and transcending in nature, so beyond the norm in every and best of possible ways... Wow. I'm in utter awe and bliss here .🙏🏼🤎

That's a shame. F# Major is actually a pretty easy key to play on piano, and this piece especially is not too difficult on the technique, all things considered. I would really encourage pianists who scared off by it to give it a try. If anything, the fact that you're on so many black keys kind of encourages a light touch, which, when accompanied by varied and delicate use of the pedal, is always nice for Chopin. At least that has been my experience, and I've been playing this piece for decades.
