what DAW are you using ?

What piano you prefer? Yamaha or Kawai? What is better for you and why? Now I want to buy or Yamaha Nx1 or Kawai Novus 10, but I don't know what is better.

The new version is tres better.

He preferred the action on the NV-10. Other than that, he did not list any other reason. I believe the Kawai action on this is the same action they use on their grands. Ive played it in store, and it is wonderful! The sound is from Garritan CFX, but the native sound effects are great too

The Garritan CFX is probably the VST I like the best out of what I've tried. It's not flawless, since as you mentioned the distinctive Yamaha brightness is present here as well, when I would prefer a mellower tone for the repertoire I usually play.

it's a Kawai Novus NV10 - it's a digital hybrid piano which uses the Millenium action of Kawai acoustics

@@mangodsky2809 Ah! - very nice - do you have this as well as the N1, or have you replaced the N1 with this new Kawai? Do you have any preference between the Yamaha and Kawai hybrid digital pianos as regards action and sound? Many thanks..

I replaced the N1 with the Kawai because the action is a little better. Sound is not so important because I'm using piano software sounds instead.

@@rach3master Thank you for posting. This is a brillant interpretation. I'm with you Kawai Novus models (both NV10 and NV5) have better action than Yamaha's Avant Grand pianos. However, since they are sampled on their own pianos (even Shigeru model), the sound is not as rich. As you said, it doesn't matter because you use a software. I'm new to piano softwares and I have a basic question, if you don't mind me asking. Do you connect your piano to your computer, and have the sound produced by your computer and/or additional speakers? Or, does Garritan consist in importing its sound library in the actual piano, making it a Garritan piano so to speak? Is the second option even possible? I'm considering buying both the Novus model and Garritan so your help could be very useful (nothing is explicitly said on Garritan's website, which mostly describes their software for people who are already knowledgeable about all this!). Thank you so much in advance! Bruno

Thanks! I have a custom built PC but the biggest factor in eliminating those issues as you described was getting an external sound card (Babyface Pro in my case).

Thanks for your reply. I use an Onyx Producer audio interface but still getting some clicking, maybe more RAM will help.

I believe this is the Kawai Novus NV10. However, the sound itself is from the VST plugin Garritan CFX. I believe he has his settings in his description

Since I'm using it as a controller for a VST, the piano action is the only feature that actually matters, and I think the action is slightly better in the Novus.

How do you like the pianos themselves without vst? Thanks for the reply! I have n2 and just got Garritan cfx today after watching this video yesterday. Having trouble with pluging into logic though..

I pretty much only use VSTs. I don't particularly like the piano sound otherwise.

There's not much you can do except hold down the left piano or used the closed lid setting. It'll only dull the sound a little bit.

In my opinion, this Yamaha piano VST sounds most beautiful in the pp-mp dynamic range for this kind of piece. Any louder than that, and it is a bit too bright for my taste. Also, I went for a more strategic approach with dynamics, so that in the few sections when I do play louder it stands out more.

@@rach3master when you play these vsts, how do you listen to them, do you have external studio monitor speakers, or do you use line in into the piano , utilizing the piano's speakers?

Maybe I misspoke. This was recorded directly into garritan standalone.

@@rach3master thanks. Why are your settings on "Performer" perspective. It sounds very good but it seems curious that you would not choose the "audience" perspective for final rendering.

I don't really like the sound of the VSL Steinway D. It is bright and somewhat harsh.

I agree !! What about the Embertone walker 1955 one? It's a pity the half pedalling is not implemented (yet?)

I haven't bought that one. The tone from the demos sound pretty good, but maybe a bit artificial still.
