My first question would be how fast do you want it built? If you want it sooner than later start ordering parts. That could be pricey. If you’re thinking of finishing it a year or two I suggest that you go on the hunt for parts. I like the idea of searching swap meets and smaller motorcycle shops. There are many smaller shops in Daytona and each shop probably has a part that you would like. Your also going to be building a network of people for advice and problem solving.

This is the experience I’m looking for. When I “built” Frankenglide, I ordered 32 parts so it was very transactional and the payoff was okay it runs now so ride it. Now I want to experience a build, a compilation, lingering anticipation fraught with adversity until that magical day happens and it’s done.

An Evolution engine (say 89 cu. in). Points ignition. Kickstart only. Make sure the crankcases are cherry. A completely rebuilt four-speed trans (Andrews gears and Baker kickstart gears). A drop-seat conversion on a stock H-D 4-speed swingarm frame -- clearanced for an EVO engine, no rake, slight downtube stretch (mostly for engine clearance). Progressive Suspension, Works or Legend shocks. Nothing longer than four-inch overstock 39mm forks (Race Tech and Progressive suspension parts). Maybe Flanders # 1 type bars. FNA LED or a Bates-style LED headlight. LED taillight (maybe a Lucas type). A Frisco-mounted Sporty tank - relocated filler and petcock location. You want to ride it as much as possible. I know you cats in FLA have better roads than we do in the Midwest, but your spine will thank you for a frame with a twin shock and swingarm set up. The NorCal chopper style is a good way to go - nothing radical, just a great road bike. Yeah, lots of ideas. Obviously, you've got to ask yourself just one question - how deep are my pockets? I hope what I typed here helps out somewhat. Good luck. Best -- W -- Oh yeah, if you're interested in checking out a very good-looking chop built around a twin shock swingarm frame, then check out Ace Galervo's Shovel on Tyler Wheeland's channel.

Awesome! Thank you. One question… are you suggesting a FX frame with the side shocks? I’ve heard they outperform softail frames in the ride dept, but you don’t see allot of rear suspension visible at the chopper shows. BTW Love Eric at FNA’s head lamps, works of art. Thanks again!

@@KennyQuestShow - There are some custom FXR style frames out there, but they are pricey. Paughco has them. I'm sure other frame manufacturers have them too. Those custom frames come with paperwork (or least they should) so to keep things legal and easier to get a title for the bike. The alternative would be to buy an FRX -- frame and all and do what you want with it. Just be wary of the stock H-D FXR crankcases. I've seen some have minute cracks. I've even some FXR cases with cylinder studs which have pulled out of the cases. However, the EVO engine is pretty reliable and fixable if need-be. EVOs are easier to find than Pans or Shovels. I've seen some guys chop stock FXR frames - stretch the front down tubes. Leave that kind of framework for a guy with a lot of experience with a TIG torch and a frame jig. A guy in Jersey, who calls himself "Bad Foot," built some great-looking FXR choppers around modified FXR frames -- something that would handle and ride very well. Maintaining the rear swingarm and twin rear shocks would give the best ride. I've seen modified FXRs with four over or six over forks which look pretty good. It all depends on what you're after. Sure, bikes built around rigid frames look the cleanest, but the ride is harsh. If you intend on putting a lot of miles on a bike, then, I advise to go with a conventional twin shock and swingarm setup. I've ridden bikes built around rigid frames since the 1960s. Over time, riding a rigid will let you know that your back has taken a beating. You don't need to be a chiropractor to know that. Swingarm chops can look just as good, if you chose the right components. Good luck. Best -- W

I don’t know much about building choppers, but I’d think you’d want to get your frame and forks figured out first and then decide on a motor. Swap meets will be budget friendly. Pick up parts over time

Frame and forks first. Noted. But then I need to decide how much over stock the forks should be, more decisions!

I tend to ride most the time without a windshield. I do have a Memphis Shades Fats windshield though, but I only use it if I am going to be riding into the night, so it can keep most the bugs off me.

Love bug season is manageable with the windscreen plus it helps with interstate travel fatigue on longer trips. But the ability to take it off and go “topless” is the best.

Buy a wheel, then some handlebars then something else. Trade parts for other parts and you’ll slowly get there

You can’t put a price on art, can you? But what do you recommend as a budget?
@kct9967

@@KennyQuestShow budget is always up to the individual, If I know the guys budget, I can show him bikes of that particular budget, after 40 years I stopped listening to what they'd like that's way out of budget, this was years ago and we had new turn key customs for around 22 to 30k, and full blown customs for the skys the limit.
@KennyQuestShow

@@kct9967price is always in play but it’s typically third in line. That’s why I think approaching the project piece by piece allows you a certain flexibility. But in general “entry level motovlogger money” is under 10k. But we’ll see.
