Watch me chop down this banana tree with a machete. I never planned on catching it, but it fell right into my arms!

This was the blue Java one. It’s no where near fruiting this year and will die back to ground over winter. All way too big and far from house to try to overwinter

I don’t know if it’s true or not but from watching banana videos today it seems like the trees fruit ones and then die. But they send up “pups” that replace the plant for the next year

Just posted a video on this. I’ve got the veinte cohol in a trash can indoors for the winter. Should be about 4 feet tall in spring. Definitely will fruit

I cut down my young (ish, it was very sick and got it from a nursery. It has 3 leaves and a fourth one was emerging) banana tree. Will I be able to make two plants out of it? I know it regrows, but can the top plant root?

Unfortunately no. If you don’t see any roots on the top part, then it won’t grow back. If you cut it close down to soil and get a small part of the roots, then it will. But if you cut it like I cut mine, it will not grow back from the top part

@@flarethefox9836 you can either compost it somewhere or cut it up into small pieces and use as mulch. It will break down quickly and return nutrients to the soil

There are 3 suckers coming up if you look closely. Could pull two out and replant and leave 1 to grow back.

It's very satisfying for sure. That's why I made this video because it's something I always wanted to try. And it was about to die back to ground for the winter

Yeah i think they are very soft because they really are not even trees. I wish i could grow some, but i live in too cold enviroment

@@lalli8152 Where do you live? I have seen some people farther north have so success. Probably wont get fruit, but could probably still growth a cold hardy version for the looks

This is a blue Java. It fruits around 15 feet at where the leaves come out. And 20+ if you include height of the leaves

That’s part of the reason I cut this one town. It was only this tall and we were close to winter where it was going to die. So I chopped it down to have fun rather than the slow death by winter

Yes! After you cut down a banana tree after it fruits, the center will rise and the process starts all over again! :) banana trees grow up to 8-16 feet in one growing season

Yep, it will technically be a new pup, not from the center of the last plant. It will be adjacent to the one that just fruited
