Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Chordplay with The Chords Of Autograph. I've had a number of requests to feature more of Autograph's music and aside from a Three-For-All lesson taking a look at some of Steve Lynch's fiery licks/tapping ideas, this is the first time we've looked at their chords/rhythm work - so let's dive in!
The ideas in this lesson were pulled from a trio of popular Autograph albums from back in the day, including specific selections from the albums 'Sign In Please,' 'That's The Stuff,' and 'Loud And Clear.' The chord-based song examples in this lesson include sections from the tracks 'Friday,' 'All I'm Gonna Take,' 'Built For Speed,' 'Crazy World,' 'She Never Looked That Good For Me,' and the mega-hit 'Turn Up The Radio' - to name a few.
Needless to say, if you're an Autograph fan, a fan of 1980s hard rock music, or a player searching for some new chord-based twists and rhythm guitar ideas to play around with - this lesson is totally for you! So lucky to catch Autograph at a small club just a few years ago before Steve Lynch left the band. Front row seat to see him work his magic. Something I'll never forget. If I had a time machine, that Van Halen 1984 tour would be on my list.

Great lesson man! Ahhhh yes… 1984, VH begins their world tour (I got the same tee shirt at the show!) at the Coliseum here in Jax, FL, as they did for years. Autograph was the opener. Tickets were a whopping $15 each!!They had one song on MTV/radio at the time. The problem was that the Jax crowd wasn’t known for being friendly to opening acts back then, especially opening acts for huge bands like VH. I remember seeing those poor guys up there playing their hearts out as the crowd on the floor (no seats for general admission back then) was throwing things at them. Not a good luck for us! ☹️ But I do remember when they played Turn Up the Radio, the crowd recognized it and were into it finally! Last tour I saw with DLR fronting VH…✌🏻

Autograph is still touring and playing. They just released a new album with a left handed guitarist from Connecticut Jimi Bell. He’s an absolute monster player and has been around quite awhile. Sadly, just a few months ago the bass player Randy Rand passed away suddenly. He is on the new album but no longer with us.

David....c'mon man, I know a lot of people aren't big on Christian themed Metal, but if you are doing a chord play on Autograph, surely you can do one on Stryper. OZ and Michael are GREAT players.

It is sometimes the spaces between the notes that count......to begin with there were a lot of spaces.

I like your videos. Do you have any other guitars? I was just curious. I have a Shecter and a Washburn acoustic. I want alot more but I can't afford it.
