Күн бұрын

Hey everybody! Here's the next episode of Chordplay with The Chords Of Spooky Tooth. I wanted to put this together after the recent news that Gary Wright passed away and I've also spotted a few requests over the years on the LNL channel to feature some music from this obscure but influential/inspiring band - so let's dive in!
The chord-based and rhythm guitar ideas shared in this lesson were pulled from three classic Spooky Tooth albums and include sections from songs such as Evil Woman, Fantasy Satisfier, Lost In My Dream, Sunlight Of My Mind, Kyle, and Higher Circles, to name a few.
Needless to say, if you're a Spooky Tooth/Gary Wright fan, a fan of classic rock guitar music, or maybe a player searching for some new chord moves to stick in their bag of tricks - this episode is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

Thanks for bringing attention to Spooky Tooth band. Back in the day they were way ahead of their time. Their cover of the Beatles song “I am the Walrus” is a must hear for anyone new to Spooky Tooth. Gary Wright Rest in Peace.

While I have heard of Spooky Tooth in passing, I didn't realize Gary Wright was in that band. That opening guitar riff is really cool. Thanks.

My dad had a couple Spooky Tooth albums. I forgot all about them until your video came up. Have you thought about doing a video on a band from Detroit called The Rockets. They do a killer cover of Fleetwood Mac's Oh Well. Great vid as always!

Great study of Luther Grosvenor's chord work on Evil Woman. And does he ever let er rip on the guitar solo of that same song. Some of what he did on that solo was pretty innovative stuff back in 1969.

Grosvenor also went on to play guitar for Mott the Hoople on their last abum, but he used a different name. He also had a pretty cool solo album too

Oh yeah Spooky Tooth!!! I'm thoroughly amazed. Especially the 2nd song Evil Woman. One of my favorite songs by them. Any chance of doing Iron Claw from Scotland, early 70s? Especially their song Lightning. It totally rips. Thanks again Mr Brewster your ability to explain and play is beyond comparison, including your choices of so many bands I grew up and still love!!!

They were awesome. Priest covered one of their songs in fact (Better By You Better Than Me on Stained Class). By way of a request, along the same line of blues infused goodness, how about some Humble Pie with both Peter and the sadly underrated Clem Clempson.

This is great as usual David. I think the only Spooky Tooth record I've even heard was the one with their cover of "I Am The Walrus"! (Mike Harrison sounding a bit like Joe Cocker?) You're getting a killer tone from that LP. I think you meant to say F7 (not F#7) follows the C7#9 Hendrix chord in "Evil woman"? Cool-sounding chord sequence. How on earth did you figure out that series of G-A unison A (open A-string)-octave A (D-string) riff in "Sunlight of My Mind"? And how did they come up with it in the first place?

I hope that your failure to mention that Luther Grosvenor went on to become Ariel Bender playing on Mott the Hoople’s fantastic live album was simply forgetfulness on your part. Otherwise great lesson as always.
