Can someone explain how the talking works in this game? Is it just simply typing with some added or changed words depending on your condition?

Basically. It automatically applies certain modifiers to whatever you type depending on things like your character's accent, level of muscular control, mental state, and so on.

Speech is affected automatically by injuries, especially brain damage, chemicals, traits picked, mutations, the pill that charborg took contained unstable mutagen, which on goonstation can give you the swedish mutation, which makes you say bork bork bork
