@@behindthen0thing525 well it's a good thing he doesn't consider himself the greatest. Also disagree about him pushing himself. He jumped into a band as a drummer who couldn't play drums, so he had to learn along the way while trying to make the band work. He is where he's comfortable. I'm sure if he started like most drummers do, woodshedding hours and hours BEFORE even thinking about being a band, the outcome may be different.

It is not as significant as straight practice and technique, but to say that pre-existing knowledge of another instrument or (especially) music theory means nothing is just wrong. Someone with an existing understanding of how music works and it's general structures will certainly have a better start than a complete beginner.

You can gather all the knowledge in the world, if you don't put it into proper dedicated practice it will never yield results. His thoughts regarding others progress in relation to his own is what "means nothing". I will attempt to be more clear in the future.

Is he the fastest? No. Is he the most technical? No. But what Chris does have is pocket, and taste. He doesn’t wow you with his chops, he does what every rock solid drummer does, sits in the song, keeps the pocket fat, and the feel perfect.

My dad(who’s a drummer) had this on dvd when it came out that we got at a local music shop back home in Santa Cruz. I was 12 in ‘05 and I would watch it a lot and get pumped to go up in my room and play my kit! Brought back lots of memories!

Damn. Didn’t realize he learned so late! One thing I’ve always loved about his drumming is how clean it sounds: not just timing but volume. Each stroke sounds the same. He always looks so relaxed. I bet it was learning to play along with the Aerosmith cd rather than starting with a drum pad tbh

I remember watching this as 13-14 year old in 2005-2006, just started to play drums, being mindblown by Chris's playing and trying to emulate everything he did. Even his assjumping on the throne. Love it.

I learned guitar at 13 and learned the very basics of drumming shortly after, but never had my own kit, so I’ve only played a handful of times. I’m 24 now, idk if it’s too late or not, and I don’t really care. I’m gonna do my best to do what I can. This is very reassuring to know he was around my age when he learned. Lamb of god is my favorite band by a long shot. One thing i think everyone appreciates is how professional the band is when it comes to playing music. If you've seen them live you know exactly what i mean. They sound better live than on record and not many bands actually do that. Ill always miss chris but the new guy can at least play his songs lol.

I am a Guitarist but love drums and to find out Chris was only playing the drums for 10 years when ASHES OF THE WAKE was released makes me really glad i switched to guitar back in 1980! His playing is devastating for a guy that only has 10 years into it on that record!😲😱
