Here is a selection of hornpipes played by Chris Apps. Chris is playing his 1880s MacDougalls with an Apps G3 molded chanter reed and full set of Apps cane drone reeds.

I rely on your content and that of a few other creators to tide me over until I can locate someone with a pulse who can teach piping.

That's great Tom. There are plenty of pipers with a pulse who teach online. Let me know if I can help.

Chris - you should have had your right foot on that bass drum pedal (one-man band !) Most enjoyable - great set of pipes too !!

I gave up playing the pipes because of the hard reeds. I tried getting reeds from different places but every time apart from a couple of reeds around the late 1970s the "easy" reeds I bought were anything but easy. It makes me angry when people assume that beginners can't blow steady. I could blow steady within a few weeks of playing the pipes. One day a couple of years on, the pipe major gave me a loan of his pipes when mine were getting a new bag tied in and I practically only had to breathe into them rather than blow. Not only did it feel great to play without getting exhausted after a short session, but they sounded better too as I found it much easier to tune and more accurately too. Nothing good can come from struggling to blow the pipes any more than listening to a dick telling you you just need to keep blowing. You can't blow steady if you're struggling either. To hell with the pipes. I was thinking of trying to get them going again but right now, the way I'm feeling, I'd rather burn these old Laurie's to save anyone else years of frustration.

It's a old Niall which has been severely carved (by me) to bring the pitch up to where I like it.
