I was mostly his laziness to be honest, he was on back orders from his merchandise but just didn't want to do them, that was steady money coming to him, but he just didn't want to put in the work.

25:18 From what I can gather, before Chris went to jail, the idea was to create a business for them that would be self-sustaining. They had enough patrons and commissions to keep financially above water, and Null/Josh Moon was working with Chris to try and set that up when the mother-fucking happened. But yes, Chris could very easily have made a comfortable living doing commissioned artwork, as hard is that is to believe.
