I put off watching this video because this specific cover of this song makes me weep. Absolutely weep. As corny as it sounds, Chris Cornell was one of the most important voices of my generation, and his tragic loss hurt. A deep, soul-wrenching hurt. And naturally, watching you react to it, I burst into tears. Thank you for the respectful reaction. I've seen other reactors who just... they ruined it for me by not taking it seriously.

Prince was an absolutely amazing songwriter, who'd gotten his professional start at the age of 17. He'd sent a demo tape in to Warner Brothers records, & Warner Bros pressed the demo & released it. Cornell was a great artist, as well - singer, musician, & songwriter in his own right. It's too bad depression took him, but at least we had him & his music for as long as we did. This song was originally released by a band called The Family, which Prince had put together, but it didn't become a hit until Sinead O'Connor did a cover. Great choice, & I'm glad you shared this.

You need to watch Black Hole Sun, or Fell On Black Days, or Burden in My Hand, or like something else by Soundgarden, in his absolute prime (The Badmotorfinger / Superunknown / Down on the Upside era of Soundgarden) he could hit inhuman notes with ease. Jack Black once said "When Chris Cornell sang, it was like he ripped a hole into another dimension and released a note that just didn't exist in ours." truly one of rock's greatest vocalists, R.I.P.

@joel2421
@joel2421 3 жыл бұрын
It’s only technically a “Prince” song. His version was like the 3rd or 4th version of the song and was recorded and released after the Sinead O’Connor version. Her version is the most famous version. The original version was by a group called “The Family” and barely charted. One interesting thing is that between The Family version, Sinead version, Prince version, and Cornell’s version, all of the arrangements are very different. Each time the artist was looking to put their own stamp on the song and succeeded.
@Fabi72g

@joel2421
@joel2421 3 жыл бұрын
@@Fabi72g Not sure what you mean. Of course he wrote it, no one doubts that. My point was that it’s not technically a Prince song because he never made a studio version of it. He only released any recording of it at all because of how much he hated the Sinead version, but his versions were all live. So Cornell couldn’t have been covering Prince when he made his version.

I saw Soundgarden way back in 1989 when they were still a bit underground during the Louder Than Love album (and they actually opened for Canadian thrashers/gods VOIVOD), they were great live and Chris' vocals were still developing, but this and the Badmotorfinger days were my faves from them because of the youthful journey they were on as a band...didn't care for the path they took after that, though... ...but if you want to react to more Soundgarden/Chris Cornell, I'd suggest "Jesus Christ Pose", "Outshined", or "Rusty Cage" from the BADMOTORFINGER album; "Loud Love" or "Hands All Over" from the LOUDER THAN LOVE album...

Chris was a master of the craft. I highly suggest you look up Soundgarden and Audioslave. He headlined each for a while.

I know that it was not the original but it was for me, so I love the Sinead O’Connor’s version. This was nice though.

🎸🎸Respect for Mr. Cornell(RIP) his voice was suburb and he did an excellent job on this song. However still prefer the Sinead O'Connor version of it. Perhaps Miss Renee you would consider reacting to that version and then compare the two. Would be interested in hearing your thoughts! As always looking forward to your next upload and good luck this summer in Santa Fe! 🎸🎸👍🌹😎

Always a nice change when the solo switches from the verse to the chorus, rather than just using the same chord loop.

Wow! What a great guitar emoji! LOL Wonderful reaction as always! I must be way too tired right now. The first sideways glance at the cellist shocked me. I could have sworn it was Austin Brown! Second glance changed that impression. I was surprised that you didn't have better comments (did I miss them?) about the cellist. I thought his contribution to this was very meaningful. I do agree, however about the acoustic guitars sounding wonderful (not like my guitar solos). Love you as always, Miss Maggie. Just pick any random Home Free performance (even one of their silly monologues like the "Tim's story time" ones) There isn't a bad apple in any of their stuff. Grin Keep it going, sweet girl!

You definitely need to react to the Promise next. He got involved with the film because of his wife. It's about the Armenian Genocide, as is the movie. It's such a moving song.

I like his cover of “Patience” by Axl Rose, which has recently gotten a lot of radio play. Other great examples of his vocals are “Spoonman” and “Black Hole Sun”, both by Soundgarden, and “Cochise” by Audioslave. He has one of the greatest and most unique voices in Rock music history.
