Here's the full race footage from Howard Donald's stupefyingly beautiful Porsche 356. Please take note at 2min 33 sec. It still gives me nightmares now! As ever, the Revival was the most wonderful event.

He seemed like he had it under control, so I'd say no, unless you can't handle these situations. Keep in mind Chris isn't just affiliated with them because of his journalism skills. Just a tad too much oversteer, but nothing he can't handle.
@Chuck59ish8 жыл бұрын
+Mumbo Jumbo Just remember the whole dash is metal, not an airbag or cushioned surface anywhere, and the steering didn't collapse in an accident, it just went through your chest because there were no seatbelts to hold you in place. The police had to search for your body if you didn't get hung up going through the windshield. Yes, those were the good old days.
@fernandovillalon17568 жыл бұрын
+Mumbo Jumbo Didn't seem like CH expected that one coming. You can see he opens the throttle a little bit before he looses it, my guess is that he was expecting grip there but he didn't find it. Great car control tapping the gas and the brakes. I'm pretty sure it was a nasty moment for him, just see the description of the video! But anyway, great skills saved the day!

I remember a time when Chris Harris told us that he wasn't a classic car guy. That it wasn't his world. I think we all know that ain't true anymore. And I am the happier for it.

Yeah, I think to race them you can't LOVE them! You and I would not/could not push them that hard, because we respect them so much. We need guys like him who like them (but don't love them,) so we can see what they were made to do.

@DKwando8 жыл бұрын
+james grocott This is a common racing method for 356. Because it's so light in the front through the corners, the engine wants to come around. So basically you steer back and forth a little more aggressively to keep keep control. The technique is called "sawing".

I can't believe how much this reminds me of NFS Porsche Unleashed!! The 356 was so tail happy and they captured it perfectly in the game. Great driving and epic slide at 2:33. Congrats for 2nd place.

+LongtailGT would love NFS Porsche Unleashed with modern graphics and minimal changes to physics. But even as is, it's one of the all time best racing games ever made!! Even just buying near wrecked cars, building them up and selling them for a profit to fund that 959 or GT2 or whatever you've wanted since you started playing..
@FAT88938 жыл бұрын
Oh, and no nitrous please. I just hated it. =.='

+LongtailGT God I Ioved that game, really was what got me into cars and made me the die hard Porsche fan I am today. Can completely agree, the physics in NFS seemed spot on to what we saw.

Just to provide some numbers, the most potent 1953 Porsche 356 (and this one is from '53) had a 70PS engine (although, perhaps this one is tuned), whereas the *least powerful* Jaguar XK120 had 162PS. Since the one Chris Harris battled against looks like a race version, it probably has at least 213PS. That's an enormous difference in power, not to mention that the Jaguar with its conventional FR layout is probably far easier to drive, whereas our favorite motoring journalist had to keep a heavy rear end with a pendulum axle under control. I'm very impressed.

Beautifully driven. Love seeing you drive manly cars. (No offense to the badass beasts) But the skinny tire, old cars with zero assistance. THAT is where its at. Being able to take that beautiful 356 at her limit, lap after lap, right to the edge of the track is a skill most today dont grasp. Beautiful work...
