If Ferrari does with the GTC4 to SUV what Mercedes did with the previous gen A-Class to GLA, then I think it could be fantastic. The previous GLA45 was a hot hatch for a gravel road; an A45 with a little bit more ground clearance and plastic cladding. Give the GTC4 some rear doors, a little extra ground clearance, and an AWD system that works in every gear and you've got a winner. Then again, the new GLA is just another boring crossover now. So we'll have to see what happens.

It will change as companies will have to make lightweight electric cars rather than heavy, less aerodynamic SUV style vehicles to get maximum electrical range out of them. Our market in the UK is to change in 2030 due to the complete ban of petrol and diesel vehicles.

I would hate the entire american car industry with the 6.2 hemi pick ups that go to the school run and the fruit market. So let`s see the big fucking picture, cause the crossovers have engines with 1.0 1.2 1.4 turbo, not 6. something made by Bill and Andy in Detroit.

I agree with both of you, I can’t understand the purpose of these CUV’s and they are worse at utility than SUV’s and slower than sports cars, they get worse mileage than sedans, and they tow less than SUV and trucks, also they are less practical than estates and vans. Pointless type of vehicles

Well they cheated and now they have a shit engine. The reality is that the 2020 car isn't that bad. It's hard to drive, but it's aero alone is good enguehe for them to be close to on par with the higher midfield teams Next year Ferrari has confirmed that they are bringing a new engine. In other words a good engine with the aero and chasis of this car should return them to the top 3

Well, you need to go back in time to 2009, and tell them to prioritise ERS and the hybrid PU and the '14 car and spend several hundred million on development, but they didn't do that because they were trying to beat RBR with Alonso in that time period.

Their current cars are poorly built, and that's with a design they are familiar with. An SUV would likely break down on the production line, lol.

One car for real fun driving not for 0-60 times and that stuff...500-600 hp would be enough for me but naturally aspirated high revving with real ferrari sound and maybe even manual with that beautiful gated 6 speed ^^

SUVs feel secure, they are very capable and it’s a way to have one car that can do everything. They have space, you sit up high, so good visibility and in the very rare instance you actually want to go off road, it can.

They have ample amount of room, seating for me and a couple friends, a large bed to carry whatever I want, and, of course, can go off road at my own leisure. Unless you're talking about larger SUVs like Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, or the Toyota Land Cruiser, SUVs are pointless and people who buy them must for "high seating position" are buying them just to show off and not for what SUV are meant for: Utility

@@danielmaia3559 The thing is, even an expensive G-wagen or Range Rover with all the options list, with the biggest engine, is still at heart, designed for off road use. The modern SUVs by luxury brands (Porsche, Bentley, Rolls, Lamborghini etc) were designed to appeal to a market segment. That is why they feel cynical and ridiculous.

Neither of them are actually knowledgeable about cars, Blondie more so than Shmee. They simply regurgitate what's already common knowledge, or the opinions of true motoring journalists. They don't share their own opinions because they're constantly sucking up to the car manufacturers (Matt Watson especially). I value Doug Demuro and Chris Harris' opinion above all other motoring journalists. Neither of them can be persuaded by manufacturers, and both of them are extremely knowledgeable and honest.

Maybe this a good time to look away from the super high end market and look at more affordable cars. If you crave soul, character and useable speed, get a hot hatch. The supercar market and above is mostly about performance now. Hot hatches are where the enthusiast belong in my opinion.

The origin of the appeal of these things come from rich people in third-world countries with badly paved roads. The fact that people are buying cars like these while other people around them live without proper infrastructure really says quite a bit about humanity.

If you took a picture of our neighbourhood say 10-15 years ago it was mostly regular saloons and hatchbacks. Most have since morphed into SUVs.

I remember when the Cayenne first came out, there was a render of it doing the rounds with a Ferrari front shopped onto it, and there were heaps of rumours that they were making one. If they'd jumped on the bandwagon back then they would have been better off than trying to squeeze into an absolutely saturated market now.

Well there you go, Chris, you’ve given us the answer why the Ferrari Purosangue SUV makes sense and what’s it gonna be used for. So rich people who own several different Ferraris, preferably the track toys, can tow their racers to and from the racetrack. Some have their own racing teams, so why not having a team vehicle 🚗🤷🏻♂️

Wrong. They are unnecessary in the functions they serve. Ferraris, Rolls, and Bentleys all have functions and purposes for the type of car they are (Luxurious, sporty, and exciting toys) However, SUVs like Cullinans and Bentaygas are unnecessary because there are already plenty of well functioning - good looking, and sporty SUV's that serve the purpose of being SUV's for everyday life.

Here's the problem: when prestige brands like Porsche, Lamborghini, Mustang, and Ferrari have to force themselves to make SUVs in a market too saturated by them and the result they all end up looking the same, they lose that awesome image that they were built on. Also, many of the people who buy these performance SUVs don't even use them for performance, but how fast they can pull up in a straight line from a red light in Beverly Hills. They're all tasteless. And unlike your old man, they don't even have kids or need all the other stuff SUVs were built for.
