However, we have this other thing we like to call laws. Other countries have, if you can believe it. The UK has many laws that set the rights of free speech or public demonstration/assembly, that's what this entire video is about. Tories intentionally stripping those laws out and replacing them with restrictive speech laws. But to get a little more serious (which you probably won't read) many argue that the US free speech assurances are better because they are in the constitution which is a document which holds more weight in public life as well as is harder to enact laws that oppose it. This I believe is more of the same braindead american exceptionalism, the reality is that free speech has been wielded explicitly to take away the political rights of minorities since the very beginning, and people today advocate for free speech and the silencing of their political opponents through various state means in the same breath. TL;DR No. the us does not have exclusive claim on the idea or execution of free speech, and even in the us, free speech only goes as far as those in power will allow it.

Sorry, but those permits are common practice in all "Western democracies," read: G7/NATO/EU member states. If everything works as expected, that's not really a problem -- you can get permits by the dozen.
