Incredibly rare to see a near 37 year old in his year 17 season with a pretty significant history of knee injuries carve up a top rated defense. There's a wonderful video from when Chris Paul was in OKC where he's going through film of his own ball screens and talking about reading the third help defender, explaining reads that no one who's casually watching the game is thinking about actively. This video made me think about it and how rare it is to see someone almost always make the right play.

I’ve never seen a basketball analyst so proficient in the coaching Xs and Os of the game, go deep into the numbers and analytics whilst also able to break down the actual game footage with the attention to detail of an nba skills trainer. The way you seamlessly blend these different aspects of the game into your videos is what makes this my favorite basketball channel. Your understanding of the game is 2nd to none.

Yeah, he's an analyst's analyst, but he's also super clear and plenty engaging for more casual fans. And he has a bevy of unique perspectives that have changed the way a lot of us see the game. It's kind of funny that, even before I knew who he was, I got a strong sense that he was a cognitive science student after watching just a couple of his videos. Ben is definitely my favorite, and I really like the people he works with too.

Suns know that timing is everything.. They will punish luka and make him work hard at the first 3 quarters and get him tired by the 4th. While Chris Paul is just breezing through the opening quarters.. Then during the 3rd and 4th, that's when Chris Paul starts to make his money and start giving out assists and make his shots. Luka to tired to defend already and Sun's ball movement is still crisp and sound.. Damn, that's the product of good coaching..

I can't root for CP3 at all. He does all kinds of non-basketball and/or dirty shit. He committed what could have been one of the worst flagrant fouls on Giannis in the finals last year on "the lob" but the refs just didn't call it. He straight up pushed a guy going through the air in the lower body. If Giannis wasn't so big and got lucky with the amount he was able to stabilize with the rim, he could have been seriously injured.

@russellbyrnes7215
@russellbyrnes7215 2 жыл бұрын
I think Luka is getting a bit of raw deal with the takes after game 2. His offence is super nova, he is literally performing playoff scoring feats at great efficiency that are only matched by Michael Jordan, against the best team in the league, at 23 years old. Unlike some other helios (Harden), he can score from absolutely everywhere and has a counter for everything. Kawhi and George couldn't stop him, now Bridges and Crowder can't. His defence is bad, but if we are playing that game so is every single sun's defender who faces him in the context of his pick and rolls and isolation. He is cooking Bridges, Booker, Paul etc etc in exactly the same way they are cooking him, he just has no help. This mavs team is just not good in comparison to the Suns, and I'm sure he feels like he can't take a second off on offence, leading to fatigue at the end of the game. It's a bit of a chicken and egg thing to say he has to give the balll to Brunson more when Brunson is getting eaten up by length just like last year. Bruson is getting enough shots he just isn't hitting them. The Mavs organisation obviously needs to keep Luka's ego in check and get the ball out of his hands more with better roster construction, and he needs to commit to conditioning and defence in the coming years. But can we just appreciate how singularly good he is at such a young age?
@t4d0W
@t4d0W 2 жыл бұрын
" Unlike some other helios (Harden), he can score from absolutely everywhere and has a counter for everything" Beg to differ. If he was a better off-ball offensive player than Harden then he can put his faith on Brunson/Dinwiddie to handle the ball for 3 quarters and then do his magic in the 4th. Of course that is also asking much because I don't think Brunson has the same confidence and rhythm he has in the Jazz series where he had the rock for himself for 3-4 games until Luka came back. So until Luka can be comfortable to be a bit more efficient off ball and can go with the flow of his playmakers (whoever they may be now or the future) in playoff situations, this is going to haunt him and the Mavs.

The thing is the sun's are letting him do what he is. Luka has consistently sucked against the sun's in the regular season, it's just normally the mavs would have kp who can actually win the game for them. Since they traded kp the sun's have 0 reason to guard luka, because they can just guard the other 4 and win. Watch the sun's play and alot of the time they let Luka do whatever the fuck he wants because make or miss if the others can't score they can't win

4:23 The problem of depending so much on one player. Suns knew exactly what they were doing by letting him score so much, they actually wanted him to score and cutted the passing because scoring is more taxing, if tiredness didn't happen in game 1 it would show in game 2 or 3, the longer the series went the worse for Mavs. This is exactly the strategy used on Harden by Warriors a year after the cp3 injured Rocket playoff run. 4:32 Daaaamn, he's EXHAUSTED (i feel ya, i went thru this in training many times before).

@@robertroberts603 When did i insulted Bridges? When you have a player with that style (Luka) and on a team like that, you can't shut him down completely, you need to take the teams biggest strength. This is common knowledge at this point, and if you don't trust my word at least trust Draymond Green, a guy who said the same thing. Of course you gonna try make him miss his isos but the top priority is "DON'T LET HIM PASS", leave him ostracized, an elite scorer is gonna score a bunch but he'll not keep this up forever, you need to see the series as a whole. Break him phisically so you can break him mentally, 2 birds with one stone.

It would be great to see the Suns win it all this year. Phoenix fans have been starved of a title in the modern era despite having two different MVPs in Barkley and Nash - if they get past the Dubs, I think they will have enough to beat whoever gets out of the East this year (even if it's the Celtics - I'm a Celtics fan). I don't think this is CP3's last chance at a title - given how young the roster actually is besides him - but I think the West will get tougher next year, with a lot of teams on the rise & getting back to full strength (Denver, LAC, for example). After so many crushing playoff defeats it would be great to see him get that ring - we saw with Dirk that it wipes away all the years of disappointment.
