In this video, I talk about the Bellemond Paper Removable screen protector for the iPad. My name is Chris Piascik, and I've been an independent illustrator for the past 12 years, working with clients like Cartoon Network, Google, Facebook, and more. On my channel, I share tips, tutorials, and reviews related to illustration.
I've been drawing on an iPad exclusively for many years, and I've used many different screen protectors. I really hate putting on a new screen protector because of dust and the chance of getting a bad installation, so the idea of an easily removable screen cover was enticing.
I had been using the new updated Paperlike screen protector (review link below) on my iPad Pro 12.9. Before that I tried out the Bellemond Paper Screen protector (review link below)
I had mixed feelings about the Bellemond Paper iPad Screen Protector. While the drawing experience was pretty good, it was a bit rough and obscured the screen too much, which isn't ideal since the iPad has a wonderful screen. The new Paperlike screen protector combats this issue, but it's less enjoyable to draw on and wears down quickly.

Chris, Love the channel. You convinced me to switch to Fresco. Thanks for that. I tried this screen protector and another brand for a few weeks. I liked everything about it but I noticed if you tried to draw slow straight lines you would get a wobble on your line similar to what happens on surface tablets. Try turning off smoothing and draw a slow straight line and see if I am crazy or not. I ended up going back to a stick on screen protector because it bugged me so much.

I just purchased the PenTips Paper Mat removable screen protector, and my feelings are...mixed. Yes, it's great that it's removable, and it's easier to install (and remove!) than the original Paperlike and original Bellemond, but there's definitely a trade-off. Also, you influenced my Bellemond purchase, so you can consider yourself an influencer! I'm looking forward to your artfully posed photos from some resort that gave you a free stay in exchange for exposure!

Just found you..I got thoses pen tips too and agree with you 100% on the screen protector.. uh.. you were suppose to leave it in the folder right up until you put it on the iPad. If you lay it down it will pik up dust too. I actually have one that is removable for my mac laptop. I don't take it off but ti sure was easier to put on. The one I have on my iPad has a worn spot so I'm looking for a new one. Id really like an actual paper feel so have been looking around. On pen tips what I wound up buying were Reeyear pen tips. they have a really fine metal point and I love it! I got a 2 pack. They were on Amazon for surprisingly cheap.

In another review I saw of this, when using the standard Smart Folio cover on the iPad, the screen protector lifts it off when you open the cover. Apparently, the magnets on the cover are stronger than the ones on the iPad itself. Don't know if that's true with the ZUGU.

Oh interesting. I didn’t have the case on when I tried this one, but based on how easy it comes off I imagine that would be the case. It seems like this is geared towards someone who would just pop it on to draw

I’ve had this for a bit over 2 years and use it frequently. I’ve paired it with a metal tipped nib so it doesn’t wear down. The magnets aren’t very strong anymore so it slips sometimes and the back of the magnets are kinda peeling. There are a few nicks and scratches but you can’t see em well when it’s on the iPad so it doesn’t bother me too much + I can’t feel it with my pen. Sometimes when I type with it on it doesn’t actually feel me touching the screen you can kinda feel the dirt between the screen but I just wipe it off with my shirt/finger and it’s just fine. The wear on the matting can be obviously felt with my finger but for some reason I can’t tell any difference with the pen outside of the sound it makes. It’s a good product that lasts quite long I think. Obviously how long it lasts will depend on how much you use it but it’s definitely worth the money! It’s also half the price for it than Paperlike (for the iPad Air in cad) as well which is nice. :)

I think I've had the exact same iCarez matte screen protector on my screen for 3 years straight. Couple supid air bubbles, but they don't get in my way. Perfect amount of resistance for me. Also, fun fact: I used to wrap my wacom intuos in magazine covers to cut down on the toothiness so my nibs wouldn't wear down.
