American accents are usually just a valley girl, a southerner with a terrible drawl, or a New York Italian from the 80's

I watch a ton of panel shows and remain fascinated and delighted by the wide range of dialects. However, the posh British dialect predominates what we Americans are exposed to through media.

The Essex accent is pretty posh mate more like a lazy posh. What I would love is if a Brit is trying to do an American accent for them to pick a region and try not to over pronounce words. Chris Pratt can also do an impression of Chris Hemsworth as Thor. He's pretty talented.

As an American, I can say that you're probably not far off.

We love anything that makes fun of ourselves but in a good natured funny way you want examples look up live at the apollo and watch our comedians insult people, or look up jimmy carr he actually encourages people to heckle him and does it back to the audience or if you want really savage look up Billy Connolly. American's doing our accent is so boring because its always the same a posh 1930s way of speaking. Hence why we loved Chris Pratt's Essex accent here because its spot on. Not at all - Essex is to London like Jersey is to New York, so an Essex accent is moreso the equivalent of a Jersey/Staten Island accent in the US

As a Californian who lived in SoCal for 11 years, my initial thought was Valley.

Ulysses432 I'm from Essex and I can confirm that our accents are varied. Chris' accent was spot on and when speaking to someone also from Essex, I'll speak like that yet when I'm in London, I can speak well enough to blend in. It depends on what part of Essex you come from, I find the closer to London they are, the more the accent sounds like these with like an Essex twang to it :)

@Ulysses432 Scousers are from Liverpool. I'm born and bred on the London / Essex border. There's not really any such thing as a London accent mainly because it's such a melting pot. Also different parts of London have different accents. A kid born today in ldn will most likely have a kind of watered down cockney accent and speak with a mixture of patois, slang and urdu lol
