This video demonstrates how to shape basic, non-compound curves out of .060" 3003 Aluminum. The simple forming methods here are typically what I start every panel with before moving to hammers, shot bags, wheel or larger tools.
The build is the Runge "Flyer" design FF008. This is the most basic design I offer. It has no doors, "SuperLeicht" construction and is essentially a Silver Bullet! It features front and rear Disc brakes, Mid Engine 160HP 2110CC engine, 4 Speed "Longbox" transaxle and will weigh in at apx 1200LBS.

There's something extremely attractive about a panel full of clecos :) And watching you "arm strong" that sheet over your knee is very evocative of the style of craftsmanship that was creating cars like this 60+ years ago. Thanks for sharing your work and wish you every success.

More than anything this video demonstrates the skill and patience needed to be able to perform this type of work creating the final product, today's society takes so much for granted that there are only a small percentage of "gear heads" that truly appreciate handmade products.

What a craftsman, thank you for sharing this. I've never known about "combing" clecos, thanks for that tip. No drill stop for the drill?

Truly inspiring! I'm going to do this someday. It's a life long dream to design and build my own car 100% on my own. My biggest problem is the time I spend during the inspection process lol. I have a real problem with nit picking every single last detail. I think I'd drive myself crazy trying to make it perfect. Quick unrelated question. How large is your shop? Is it insulated at all? I'm asking because I see your heater and I'm wondering if one of those would work for my shop. I'm in Central NY and so I suspect our climates are pretty similar.

Minute 7:55. What is that machine? What is the name? Thanks!

That's a hand operated shrinker. It is a pretty inexpensive tool used for basic shrinking. They also make a stretcher that operates in the same way.

Well there is alot of technology in a self taping screw you dont need drill bites you dont need clecos and they are cheap and you dont have to lightly hammer to keep the clecos snug..I havent touched my cleco set in years. But great to watch you at your craft. Thanks for sharing.

MindDezign: two years ago but I’m going to ask anyway. If he were to use self tapping screws, after it’s welded would you grind off the heads and then fill the holes? Seems like it’s adding a lot of extra work because the screws are made of steel and will be much harder to grind off than the aluminum rivets.
