@xion8900 Again, that a dubbing error, in the japanese version of the games Saiyan/Freeza arc Gohan is called "Son Gohan (Childhood), Artificial Human/Cell arc Gohan is called "Son Gohan (Boyhood), and Majin Boo arc Gohan is called "Son Gohan (Adolescence) and before you say anything just understand that in Japanese society there is a distinction between Childhood and Boyhood that probably wouldn't have translated well but they could've done a better job with the naming scheme.

I dunno. I like that they got rid of filler but they took a lot of good stuff out like developement. I will always appreciate the original lines and voices from both the ocean and Funimation dubs more then Kai. Kai just leaves a lot of story out (in the episodes I have seen.)

i kind of agree with them up to a point I do miss the old voices but hose voice actors probably have something to do as for story I miss the uncut versions cause kai was made more for children like 4kids

@njong123 Gohan's more Gohan now than before. He actually sounds like a 5-6 year old kid... which he IS. He acts more like himself now too.

@badmangod The acting is better, far better, as is the script, and the actors are bringing an extra ten years of experience to the roles as well as an understanding they didn't previously have of how the characters were portrayed. As for the new actors, they were chosen due to their skill as well as their ability to remain as close to the Japanese actors as possible. (Chris Ayers just OWNS Frieza now, no question.) Plus the old series was censored on Toonami too, until Midnight Run showed it.

God I'm glad they acknowledge how poorly translated the American Dub was in the beginning. Each new release has gotten substantially better. In fact when they released the remastered, it was damn near perfect.

@MadaraUchiha41 No. Kid Gohan is what you call the Gohan from the arrival of Raditz to the end of the Cell Game. Teen Gohan is the Gohan from the High School and Majin Boo arcs. Adult Gohan is the Gohan from the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai arc and GT. Lemme guess you call him Teen Gohan because that what the video games call him right? That's just a dubbing error.

i love dragonball z i just wish that the original voice actors was there like Gohan, 18, frieza, 19(fat one i think) and the blood needs 2 come back i like the HD feel 2 it but i dont like the new actors and i wish the orignal music was back also!

watching this makes me want to watch the kai series. Still a huge fan of the original dub tho and thought they did a great job. But now im interested to see the changes with kai

@badmangod *ahen* Still blood. Still bruises. More adult language. More intense combat as hours of filler and pointless energy blasts that take an hour to charge and do little to no damage or miss are gone. An accurately translated script to properly capture the spirit of the series. You're judging based on a TV edit.

And if you seriously think Having Nappa scream at the "Little Bastards" who are pestering him, Goku literally snapping Nappa's back,, is somehow more child friednly just because there's not a fountain of blood when Raditz gets a hole punched through him (even though there's still plenty and a REALISTIC amount) then that's frankly ridiculous.

I think the level of blood and gore should go with the wounds, if a leg is cut off, a normal mount of blood, head cut off, normal amount of blood, proper amount of blood, like Skyrim lol.

There is one problem with kai in my opinion. They say that its more of action and less of talk, but the thing is dbz was never about just action. It was also about the story telling and the story was the reason why we loved to watch it and we still enjoy to watch it. With story comes the talking , and it leads to action. When we watch a footbal match we dont watch just the goals after the match is over, we watch the entire match when there is more passing and dribbling too. DBZ is better.

@andrewtuell1991 Dude, come on now. Kid Gohan is the Gohan from the Raditz saga all the way up to Android Saga where Gohan first enters the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Teen Gohan is the one where Gohan finally emerges from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and all the way up to the end of the Cell Games. You can tell the difference between his size, height, and muscles. His voice is also slightly deeper and more mature for his character. Adult Gohan is the one in the Buu Saga and GT.

That is very true because there is more to it then that so when did I say Kai was better ONLY for the mature dialog. And yes I do prefer Kai because its more mature unlike the original that is soo dumbed down its insultingly awful ^_^ You can say its not mature, but that doesn't negate the fact it IS more mature then the original. P.S. Yes I know you do.

@njong123 its because she IS gohan. Stephanie Nadolny is a SUPERIOR Gohan in every way. Gohan is not supposed to feel like a badass kid gohan is supposed to be a scared kid which he is.... And Stephanie Nadolny dominates that role much better than the crappy old voice.

Me neither because Kai is not dumbed down I don't know why people think it is but it isn't. BF is not fitting for DBZ for the fact it would never shut up and never add silence to build tension in the atmosphere. plus the voice acting has more swearing then any version of DBZ out there. So that proves Kai also has more mature dialog. Like how is this even debatable? :/

he's right about is more mature to 10- 14 year old @2:52, i washed dbz when i was 6 then started again when i was like 11 and started now at 20 randomnly because i watched them on nickoons and i didnt remember almost anything of the story and is like total new series for me, dbz Kai is Great the best in my opinion

I agree. At first I kinda liked freeza's old voice, but after watching kai, I can't even look at freeza's old voice because of how inferior it is.

@badmangod The Frieza saga was the same length it was in the manga. Frankly, there were entire episodes where nothing, literally NOTHING happened. They'd just blow each other back, brag about how that didn't hurt, and repeat.

The first episode of Kai I ever saw had me grab my DBZ manga and flip through the corresponding scenes, thinking "holy shit, the dialogue is almost word-for-word the same." With respect to DBZ, it never got the kind of treatment it deserved in English. You get a sense of shame from Sabat from time to time, like he knows how poorly dubbed DBZ was, and you get the sense that he and the rest of the cast are trying their hearts out to do it justice this time around. THAT is why I love DB Kai.

Some people don't view "Sounding like the Japanese more" as "better". I am inclined to agree with those people. The Japanese voices were not as good. It's a rare instance where English dub is any good and rarer still that it's better. Manga thing is irrelevant but I can agree it would be better.

@badmangod We watch the uncut DVD's dude. On there it does show Krillin being killed by frieza. And secondly Radits in the Manga had NO WHERE NEAR the amount of blood there was in the original show...in fact they added in more blood to the point of absurdity At least Kai stays more true to the manga which is the original source before the show. If anything the show is the mockery Kai is the definitive version of Dragonball Z. That is not opinion, that is concrete Fact

@DRAGONBALLPROTEST really? i grew up with the show and i just dislike how much its "Censored" on tv, not the DVD version, and compaired to the FULL original cast, the voice overs on Kai are not as well done, i just dislike that they replaced some of the actors and alot of the voices are different, i dont get why they had to redubb the whole thing.

It is better because the old voices were forced and fake while Kai's voice acting sounds more natural and the scripting is better. As for Bruce's falconer's music. Yes it was great but it didn't FIT Dragonball Z. There was not one moment where the music would stop and let there be silence to build atmosphere like the Japanese music.

@DRAGONBALLPROTEST where are you watching Kai? its on nickalodeon, the whole freeza killing Krillin was all not even showned, just heard, and the fight against raditz, napa, and vegita was all too washed down, minimal violence, the show is all cut up, its a mockery of what the dragon ball z definative DVD collection is!

Kai IS dumbed down, quite a bit. For the most part this was for the better in that all the unnecessary filler was removed and the overall pacing of the show improved dramatically. The voice cast is rather mixed. Eg. I can easily see why people would prefer frieza's new voice, but I personally don't find it suitable at all. There's no competition in the music department, and as for this debate about which version is more mature... I don't even know why that's being debated over in the first place

Honestly, I was never that concerned about maturity in the first place. For me, kai does some things better (eg. some voices, pacing) and other aspects I prefer the original for (eg. other voices, music). I don't really have a preference over dialogue, they both feel similar to me. I don't know... maybe i'm just viewing this whole thing through nostalgia goggles. :)

That's the problem. Those lines were never, NEVER supposed to be there. Period. They made a joke out of characters meant to be taken seriously. They added cheese to appeal to 5 year olds in moments that were supposed to be intense and serious. So yes, that old dub screwed up. BAD. As for blood... check the featured video on this channel. There's still blood. WHY people insist on spreading that lie is beyond me.

I hope most people are aware that more cussing (or more "mature" dialogue) doesn't necessarily mean a better end product. If you do prefer kai, then please don't say because it's more mature. It's neither smart nor clever analysis. P.S. I prefer the original...

Not only they improved vegeta's voice because he is no longer trying to imitate the ocean dubs voice, But Frieza's voice is nothing short of AMAZING not only does he sound closer to the japanese frieza but he acts like he does in the manga so I call "bullshit" on butchering his frieza's voice This fact dude :/
